I have been averaging about $150 every 3 months from just picking up change off the ground (+change I get back from stores)

This is only in coins

That's harder than it sounds, you can't always find change off the ground. People don't just throw money on the floor so they can see other people go and pick it up. Where do you live where you can get $150 by just picking up coins!?

I was wondering the same thing. I pick up change that I see on the floor, but I don't even come close to averaging $50 a month ($1.67 a day). Stratch

I think this one is the big one. If one eats out frequently or has multiple small purchases a day, getting back change from stores will add up fast (an average of $.50 returned per purchase & 3 meals or other purchases a day is about right).

Bleh. In order to do that though, I would have to change a lot of habits. Like making my own lunch, or making purchases with reward credit cards. The benefits of saving some change versus some real savings is not worth it. I pick up almost every piece of change I find on the floor, but there is no way I am picking up enough change to average even 25 cents a day (mostly pennies).

for those of you that use cash purchases regularly ... the simple act of recounting the bills after you receive them into your hand, may save you $10-20 a month.

the tell is a cashier that simply places all the bills, change and receipt together into your hand and doesn't bother to count back the change.

the really bad ones will show you the correct bills in their hand then fold the reciept and the bills and toss the coins on top in your hand.

the hope here is that you will simply stuff it all into your pocket or purse.

try it for a week or a month i would be curious to see what everyone comes up with. my guess is the major metropolitan areas will save the most.
