created by the McClellan's for following the advance / decline ratio numbers. the line tends to move in advance of price.

Further its curves and stochastic's are nice for anticipating moves.

thanks

using the McClellan's formula's for any sector. I'd have to re-read it, but its a compilation of the 1% [ Long Term ], 10 % [ Intermediate Term ] and probably some of the 50% [ Daily kinda thing, if i remember right. ].

I am creating one using this portfolio, so I can add [ net out, that is ] the up and down ticks in a given sector. I do like it but I used it in the general market, and I am simply not interested in the general market anymore, more like I am sector oriented, so that I can try to use other leading indicators in
concert with a sector tabulation like Summation Index.

Thanks,

y / j

The McClellan Summation Index (MSI) is usually computed based on the market breadth, advancers - decliners. It can also be computed using the difference between advancing volume and declining volume. The latter is Helene Meisler's preferred method for calculating it on the Nas.

There is no reason that you can't calculate it for a sector as long as you have a well defined collection of stocks that make up the sector.

Basically, the index is the sum of the daily oscillators. The oscillator is computed as the difference between the 19-day and the 39-day ema of the breadth. You can read more about the formulas of the MSI and other indicators on
