Another thing I like to do is to cash any kind of extra money that comes into the house: rebate checks, refunds, bonus checks and then stash the money in an envelope earmarked for something special: like a vacation. In 6 or 7 months time I'm always surprised at how much "found" money I've accumulated. (if I can 'forget' about it and keep my hands off it!)

I do the same thing. I clean a drawer in my room and I find money stashed away in an envelope marked "rainy day fund" then I put more money in there and hide it in a different place. I haven't counted it in some time but I know I will have to clean my room again to find it!

We're using all our "extras" for our upcoming Disney trip. I've found if I convert the extra money into Disney Dollars it keeps me from using it to buy a pizza or something. Because it's ONLY good at Disney.

It seems to always be easier when there's a goal in mind- like a vacation or a new purchase. I love hearing everyone's tips!

An interesting idea! If you did actually need the money (unforseen expenses, etc.) could you redeem the Disney money for cash? Or is it gone once you convert it? |
