If I do not have any income, can I open an IRA in just my name? My husband has income and we file joint taxes. Thanks!

When I quit work to stay home with the kids, I rolled my 401K over into an IRA, so yes you can. My husband is our sole income and we file joints taxes.

Yes, you can open an IRA and contribute to it on your own.

A non-working spouse can put money into an IRA up to $3,000 isn't that right?

Thanks for the reply. I did find an article explaining that the spouse can contribute $3,000 to the IRA. Now, just to choose where and what type.
