Does anyone else feel like they're the only one of their friends or family who saves a lot? I get called all kinds of names like stingy and cheap, but it really doesn't stop me from the way I feel. I think when times are good people tend to splurge only to regreat it when times are bad. I wish more people thought this way, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one and that's hard.

I can relate, but it doesn't bother me when people think I'm cheap. There are always opportunites to point out that if they weren't frivolous and wasteful, they would be better off. Such as when they moan about what they need and can't afford. Laughing

I get that feeling all the time! Most of my friends say: "You have a job now, you can afford it". I usually ignore that. To me, that kind of thinking will just get you into trouble later on in life and neck deep in debt.

Most pople live well beyond thier means (income). Most of them when in trouble, have no cash available for emergencies. Let them call you frugal, maybe even a Scrooge (for the X-Mas season). Treat yourself and your friends once in a while, you've earned that.

they might not see it now, but when all of you are sitting around a fireplace in your rocking chairs in your late 70s and 80s, they'll wish they had saved like you did

There was once a time where I had almost $200 in a lockbox in my room, and then over time it was slowly emptied by someone other than me...

And then I had about $30 in my wallet recently, and someone took that... *sniff*...

i feel the same way but i do have a lot off stuff. i save 70 % then spend like 50% of that if i see stuff on sale that ive been wanting(needing) so i still end up saving like 35% of my pay a month which is way ahead of my personal goal. people think im rich cuz i get everything i want (but others feel im stingy because i dont spend money at fast food places or resturants at work). but i never pay full price(tech goodies) nor do i spend money every week. i might go three months with out buying anything. i keep like 5 dollars in my wallet

Well investing in your home is usually a good deal, as long as you have something there still for emergencies.

I've heard it said when something breaks or a problem with your home it's either $1,000 or $10,000. ie New water heater, $1,000, leaky basement or new roof, $10,000.

I believe the best investment is having a happy wife though, when she is happy everything seems to run a lot smoother at home and the return is priceless. Laughing

Anyway, I'm horrible at saving money. My wife is excellent though, I don't know what I'd do without her. Oh yeah, spend, spend, spend!

I hope for your sake that she chooses colors that aren't too unusual as that can shave a good amount off the resale value of your home.

I'm pretty good at saving big money, but bad when it comes to saving like $20.

I have a savings account and I do pretty well with it though.
