I am considering opening a commodities and futures account. Has anyone ever traded these before?

Wow, no. Smile That's not normally something for the casual investor. With stock options you can get in and out fairly easily, and the worst case is you have to buy (or sell) some stock. With commodities, worst case scenario is you would actually have to deliver a bunch of pork bellies or orange juice or whatever it is you're trading in.

You can leverage a lot with a little, same as with stock options trading. So your net return if you get it right can be astronomical. But the down side is scary. Shocked

consider reading the book "hot commodities" by jim rogers before opening that commodities and futures account.

don't quote me on this but isn't there an old adage that goes something like this...

there are lots of old commodity traders in the world
the problem is
there is not alot of old RICH commodity traders in the world.

i have no affiliation with jim rogers financial or otherwise.

I've heard commodities trading is not for the faint of heart. Story time...
A trader was having such a bad year January - November that he was at risk of losing his job. December rolled around, and not only did he end the year in the black, but it turned out to be one of his best years ever.
Thats a happy story. The reverse could just as easily happen.
Good luck...
