Do you think its smart to buy a website off ebay and try to run it is it worth it? I have only seena few good sites you can buy and the best things about lots of the poor sites is the domain name you can resell it for a good ammount. has anyone bought a site off ebay yet?

Never bought a site, but I would be very wary. I think it'd be easy to fake stats and income. Some of those domains listed for a million bucks a laughable at best.

I would say generally to stay away from eBay when it comes to websites. Often they are just scams, a copy of an exsisting site, or contains stolen content/images. If you are looking to buy an exsisting website, pm me, and I can give you a good list of places to look.

Most of the sites sold on Ebay are turnkey which means there are thousands others who has the same kind of design or system. It is highly a rare opportunity to succeed with them.

I hope.

There are much better places to buy websites than off ebay. Like investor said, most are tunkey sites that 1,000's of people have... useless.

I have purchased many site packages off of ebay.. I just go for those who are Power Sellers or at least have a lot of good feedback..

I think the biggest problem on ebay in regards to selling websites is those newbies who don't realize that most are turnkeys off Prozilla and the like.. so they pay $200-$500+ for a site that they could get for less than ten bucks.. AND one that nearly everyone else has or could have easily.

Still, it's a huge marketplace and sometimes cheaper to go than some domain/site forums like dnprofits.. whose common theme is to over-charge and inflate site value..

i think this is one thing i would buy off ebay. You have no proff the siteis theres although ebay should prtect you. I think its best to stick to special forums dedicated to this sort of thing with poeple who deal in domains and have a trader rating and recommendations as such,

I like http://www.sitepoint.com they have heaps of sites for sale, with traffic, also http://www.namepros.com is great also. I contemplated using ebay to purchase a site, butthey all look the same, so u have to think, how many other people have bought the exact same site, or a a rehash of the site....

I never even knew you could buy that on eBay. Hmmm... I don't know if it is a scam or not, but you know what they say, if it seems too good to be true....

Well the sites you see on ebay are often the domain names that have residual traffic from what I've found.

For example if google.com failed (for some absurd reason) to maintain their domain registration, the vultures would pick it up and sell it.
Someone could purchase the domain and make it into a different site, and the leftover traffic from google.com would be driven in and give the site an immense amount of exposure.
