I've noticed several that offer cash back with some various terms. If I were to have a college credit card ( a card issued only to college students), would I still be able to use it after I graduate? Or will it upgrade or cancel?

They have some good cards here at the bottom of the page:

Do you get taxed on Dividend Dollars from citibank? I read the terms and services and it says that it is not responsible if we get taxed. Im not sure what that means.

Quote:
You are responsible for any taxes that may be due on checks we may send you for your Dividend Dollar balances. Dividend Dollars have no cash value until such time as you may request and receive a check for your accumulated Dividend Dollars and you shall have no property rights or other legal interest in Dividend Dollars. You may not assign, transfer or pledge your Dividend Dollars.

No, I don't believe you can.

I think you will also find that a number of college/university campuses have banned credit card ads, as they have found college students are not fully aware of the responsibilities that go along with a credit card and run into debt issues.

You really have to know how to handle credit cards. Credit card companies throw credit at students like crazy. There are applications in the book store bags that you get your textbooks in. Also there are people standing outside giving away free tshirts if you sign up. College students are bombarded with credit cards. Just say NO. Stay away from the CRACK!

To me, they're just credit cards but they're exclusive only to students because of the benefits that is catchy with us college students. They have rewards that they know would benefit us. As far as having it after you graduate, credit cards are credit cards and they are yours forever...it doesn't matter whether you're college student or not.

I'm sorry but I feel that we should be able to sue the crap out of cc companies just for that practice!!! It is insane the amount of credit they will offer up to a STUDENT. They have to know that they will never be able to pay off them as well as student loans and such. Oh those CC companies really burn my hide!!! Evil or Very Mad

Why do you think you should be allowed to "sue the crap" out of credit card companies? All people need to do is exercise some personal restraint in spending, and they will be fine. It is unfair to blame someone else for your own problems. Do you think McDonalds should be held liable for people being overweight?

No I don't think that, as adults we should be accountable and responsible for our actions. It just seems that the CC companies virtually prey on college students. They know that they have expenses, they LOVE to party and that most are ignorant to things like rates, financial stability and the basic fundamentals of finances.

I think the worst part is that CC companies pitch college students having credit cards as "necessary for building credit". I know for a lot of college students, this can be the final arguing point for them to go ahead and get a credit card. Often, I think students are well aware of the risk of not paying it, so they use it wisely at first. But then what happens for them is that income is so unpredictible and often only during seasons that it is easy to obtain a huge debt those last few weeks of a semester just because you slightly underestimated what you needed and another huge expense came up unexpectedly.

I think often when this happens, the most convenient thing to do is to say, "Well, I can just carry the balance for a month or two until I get my summer job and make some extra cash". Then they are on that road of high interest debt that becomes very hard to get out of, when it would have been financially better to have borrowed money from virtually anywhere else (parents, bank, etc).

If the credit card companies would stop perpetuating this story about college students NEEDING credit cards to build up their credit, I think it would solve a lot of the problem.

Obviously if a college student is reading these forum posts, to some degree he is well aware of the determental effects of carrying a balance. Surely you can not be serious and neglect the benefits from using a credit card. Like a "free 30- day loan" which can earn interest in a bank such as ING until the payment is due.

The only thing that really bothers me about credit card companies is how they jiggle the rates, and give you great "introductory APR" only to add 15, 20 or 25 percentage points on later.

I was looking at getting a card the other day (not that I should have a credit card, watch out world) and it looked good... until I noticed in the fine print that the rate after 6 months was something like 28%. Yeah, I'm buying that one. Rolling Eyes
