Hydrogen fuel is to gas, what the computer was to the type writer.

gas is limited in it's efficiency gains and supply. Hydrogen is unlimited in supply and perhaps in gains.

Sure happy I did not invest much in type writers in 1981.

Hydrogen may be clean burning, since the only byproducts are heat and moisture. But I probably takes more energy to produce hydrogen and compress it than you get out of it. Not to mention the big bang if you get a leak or rupture. It is also very light, but needs a strong container, so range per gallon is limited.

So basically you would need hydroelectric, nuclear, wind, or more efficient solar cells to produce it. I do not think a method has been devised to directly use the sun to split hydrogen from water (I think it takes electricity to do that, like we did in science class over 35 years ago).

PS: Are you just posting to get play money?

Um I think these are relavant topics to the issues at hand. Rolling Eyes

Thus, the typewriter analysis.

If we could find that type of generational forming product we could make a lot of money. Don't you get the premise?

The computer shaped and reshaped everyones lives. If you invested in Microsoft in 1975 you r very rich today, same with intel, apple etc.

Further, I am a member of the Hydrogen energy or one of the Hydrogen energy Councils. You are way off base on what you say about the ability to power a vehicle. It's here now and it's not that compicated. Perhaps, do some research before you make such comments.

This is not to say that g & o won't remain mainstream but do we really need buses spewing black soot into the air. California now runs most municipal and public service vehicle on clean natural gas or some clean fuel I forget. Visiting since living there 12 months a year a decade ago I notice it is much cleaner. I'm there much of the year anyway for business.

So, could you suggest a product or company that is what the computer was to the type writer?

Yes there is one in California. It's in L.A. and the Governator has a Hydrogen hummer. But he can only fill it up there. Been that way for about a year.

I agree that hydrogen is the next phase for our transportation needs, and that all we lack is the distribution infrastructure (which I think could be easily converted) and the commercial push for such infrastructure.

For bulk power, nuclear should not be hailed as a saving form of generation, but instead as an intermediate to take over for petroleum-based generation while we convert a majority of our generation system to renewable sources such as wind and solar. Wave-generation off the coast is also a very viable option and should be utilized to shore up our vulnerable power grid.

I think that the hydrogen technology still has a long way to go, for what i have read these hydrogen pump gas stations are only able to fill 5 to 6 hydrogen tanks a day. They are still estimating that the overall cost and gas mileage on one tank will still even out or even be a little more than what we pay now. When the computer was first introduced it took many years for the perfection we have now, and i think that it will take many years before we can expect to pass 1 out of 5 cars on the road that run on hydrogen pumps. But over the next many years i think that it will happen and it will run to perfection like our computers do now.
