Laughing I would venture to say that Show's gain is more than likely a case of playing the opening bounce on overnite news ( i guess it isn't NTES since it is only up 20%), luckily for those who want to play fair Mr. EIA has the trading police on watch for this type of activity, if it isn't a legit gain I'm sure it will be eliminated, of course Show could have held this stock well before the move, if that's the case let me be the first to offer Show congrats! Very Happy

I don't understand... how could you actually cheat buying overnight? Is it a flaw of the program or can this be done in the real markets too?

Aha! I bet Show put RBK on the list today and played the time delay to his benefit, am I right Mr. EIA? do I get a special $1000 Ebucks award for guessing the reason for the 30% move in our fearless leader's port? Very Happy

Hi C-bow, EI's system is on a 15 to 20 minute delay, that means the prices here do not start reflecting market activity until appx 9:45 EST, last night RBK was issued a buyout by addidas at 59.00 per share, the stock opened at 57.40 off the 43.95 closing price, therefore, you could have simply entered a buy order here at EI and received yesterday's closing price up until 9:45 today, when EI's system finally caught up you would have had an instant 30% gain, I mentioned a solution to the problem but my advice went unheeded, for now anyway Very Happy and no! you cannot make trades like this in real life regretfully Crying or Very sad

shabbang had an illegal trade and their results are not accurate. This will be modified.

Hopefully the new trading hours will help keep it fair.

This is now #1 on the to do list BlackFox...

If anything it adds quite a bit of difficulty, but its not realistic. Blackeye

Well, I kinda have a temporary solution for this problem. It can't be applied in the Trading Sim Rankings page but it can be calculated in the end of each month like this:

(amount of $ in the end of month - $ received from posting or donations) /amount of $ in the beginning of the month
for example
(15600 - 600)/12000 = 1.25 = 25%

understandable? If no-one is willing to do it then I volunteer. I promise I won't cheat Laughing

update.
there is one problem: if you can use the $ you received from posting the next day then it kinda makes it difficult to calculate the return %.

We currently have mathematicians at MIT working on the problem.

Well, not really.

But we hope to have a solution in place for next month. Trading Simulator is working on it.

Laughing Laughing Did everybody have fun cheatin the system with BIDU today?!! Laughing here's something to think about if you are using this site to try and improve your investment skills, you DO NOT get a 20 minute delay in real life in order to generate a 20%+ 1 day gain in your overall portfolio performance, therefore, by cheating the system you in essence are cheating yourself, I'll admit that I was guilty of playing BIDU today because of the 20 minute delay, but the new charting service I am using (bigcharts.com) is charting data on a 2 minute delay, and although I did wait for EI to catch up with the entry price I wanted I gave my explanation why I felt it was a good risk based on the low OBV, I also made another trade in NTES to catch the final wave up because it was selling off after a sell signal, which meant another rally was due, plus my target high for NTES was 79.00 based on the last major support area, now granted I sold that position at 80+ and banked the gain off my buy just below 75.00, and I did that because of the 20 minute delay, but I wasn't cheating just so that I can yahooo all over the place and act like I deserve to be at the top of the leaderboard, if that's the way it is going to be then I say we get rid of the $50 award to the end of the month leader, the current positions I am still holding are down 3 to 6% off my original buy points, that's because I have confidence in them as long term plays, and I want to see how I will handle a situation where some bad news comes out and any of these longs get slammed for 50% losses, ya wanna learn? well go ahead and learn, ya wanna boast about the fact that you have nothing better to do but play the wide daily swings in a stock like BIDU with the benefit of a 20 minute delay? that's fine too, just keep it to yourself so the fokes who want to learn won't have to deal with ya Wink

Laughing Hey Mr. EIA, read your other post about 10 things to do, it was funny as chit, just like this one about the MIT boys Laughing remember 3 Mile Island? MIT boys and they still spilled a coke on the control panel Very Happy looks like the only solution is going to be real time quotes, and that's an expensive solution that really isn't necessary here since this whole thang is supposed to be all in good fun! right? Very Happy
