I'm 26 years old and doing the following:
1. Investing 6% in my 401k (the max needed to get a company match)
2. Invest the max amount into a Roth IRA
Nothing to unusual there, I'm also going to have my house paid for by the time I retire. I'll probably work till age 65, instead of retiring early. But you never know...
I consider any SS money I would receive as just a bonus, and will not depend on it for retirement. I am strongly in favor of private accounts however.
Later in life, say 10 years from now, I think I will start investing investing in rental property. I'll start with either a single family home, or a duplex. |

You can help your spouse by being an active partner in diversified savings plans for your shared retirement years.
