"Realistic" is when you plunk down cold hard cash.
Those of us here use this forum to experiment, to test theories, and (yes) shoot the bull now and then.
You can bet that the folks on top of the leader board have real dollars either:
a. Currently working a path that worked in practice here or...
b. Getting ready to work a path that's working here.
This site does have a couple of drawbacks (long winded "post"ers like me ) but it's a great tool if you like to try your latest hairball scheme before putting your real dollars at risk.
Stick around! You'll get to know us, and you'll learn when Frusnak is bluffing, when Jacob is on a roll, and when I've read one or two too many headlines. The good news? Every now and then you pick up a tip that can't be had anywhere else...and you make money.
That's what it's all about...making money. If I want a "game"....I go to walmart and buy one.
Welcome aboard! Hope you hang in! |

I too have problems picking individual stocks. So...I work the ETF's. SPY (S&P 500), EFA (Europe, Far East, and Australia), SSO (Pays 2xwhatever the S&P does...both up and down...be careful and SDO (Bets against the S&P-shorting it if you will- pays 2X down...ie market goes down 1%, SDO pays +2%....or there 'bouts).
EWG is Germany's market, EWA is Australia, EWJ is Japan, EWZ is Brazil, etc etc. Any time you feel froggy....leap in! It's really pretty hard to lose too much on ETF's at any one time, and if you do your homework each morning....it's not that hard to stay ahead of them.
I use cnn.com "world markets" first thing in the morning to get a "peek". Then I wait for the market to open to make any "cash" moves. There's all kinds of variations you can use...in fact at one point I was betting the farm on Brazil while betting SDO against the U.S.
It all just depends on situation and terrain.
I read yahoo.com business news, cnn business news, and msn money news. In between, I listen to everything everyone has to say...which currently has led me to step into CapitalOne whose stock has taken a beating....who's on the "not preferred" list right now....but who, according to my kids...have an outstanding offer for good interest savings accounts and credit cards that pay you money with no annual fee. Long range....I think they might just be on to something. But hey...that's unusual for me to do an individual stock. Last time I did it was with NIKE and got lucky. But on individual ones....it's easy to get burned ;-(
I too have looked at other sites, and they're all about the same....except this one. Our founder here was "Ben" who's a wirehead/stock nut combo. Not to mention a superior human being. He sold the site, but now is talking about coming back. If he does....you'll see the excitement pop once again with contests, arguments, ego's flaring etc etc. It's great fun! I highly recommend it!
But things are pretty quiet right now as the "sunshine only" investors have (I assume) lost their shirts and gone away. What's left though is the "Hard Core" members.....and if you have questions.....all you have to do is ask. We'll all chime in.
I've learned a TON on this site, and made alot of money. Thanks to these guys and the tricks they've taught me....I'm up just short of 10% this year while the S&P is in the toilette. Can you imagine what it's going to be when the market recovers? I'm gonna' need a WHEELBARROW to drag it all to the bank (Or at least I hope).
Meantime....get in the competition here. 10 posts gets you in the rankings and hey...ya' never know....ya' just might win bragging rights! |

Well, I stand corrected.
Terribly sorry, stocktrader09...
I figured it was spam, because, well, this is about as realistic as they get.
Sure, you could have a lot more features like options/shorts/limits/stop losses, but all that gets complicated if your unsure of where to start in the first place.
And of course, we want you to stick around. Gets a little lonely around here sometimes. |

| UMOO.COM is a good one. I haven't seen others (but haven't looked either). The only problem with UMOO is that the longest duration for a contest is a week. I think it takes a month for ideas to play out... |
