What do you guys think gets more bang for the buck?

Right now I'm pretty much leaning towards DLP because of the longer lifespan and cheaper repair costs as opposed to the other two. I'm not one to nitpick over minute degrees of sharpness in picture. Dependability and longevity are key in my book.

Great question, I look forward to the discussion.

I think DLP's have a smaller viewing area. I have a friend that works for TI (the company that makes the core technology) and he was able to get a DLP TV right away. The thing I remember noticing was that the picture was not as good off to the side.

I read an article somewhere that discussed LCD panels. They have good brightness, but - at least in theory - do not respond as quickly as plasma. So fast action games might be a little blurry.

DLPs definitely have a longer lifespan, and can actually be repaired. A Plasma, my understanding is once it's gone it's gone. But they have by far the best picture. Shocked

I actually did a side by side comparison of all three HDTVs and I take back the words I said about not caring about minute differences between the displays. There is a huge difference. The DLP displays were very dark in contrast to the Plasmas and LCDs. In addition the picture was not as crisp and sharp like the Plasma. So, plasma has won me over. =)

Plasma screens are incredibly "sexy". Very Happy They look great, perform beautifully, and - unfortunately - don't age well. I keep looking and waiting. The TV I have now isn't shabby; it's a nice flat-screen WEGA tube from Sony, and I like the picture. It doesn't do "high def" and it weighs a ton (or feels like it when you have to move it) but I don't move it very often, and I don't subscribe to digital cable, so it's great for now.

But plasma... hmmmm (drools)... very nice stuff.

Unfortunately, this TV is actually for my parents so I will not be enjoying it on a daily basis. =( I own a 27 inch Toshiba flatscreen which does not have hi def, but it suits my needs for now. But I will always look forward to Family Movie night at my parents! yay?
