While this may be a stupid question I'm gonna ask anyway.
Does anybody get into a stock just for the dividend?
I had FERRELLGAS for awhile. Not a barn burner when it comes to stock price. It swings a bit but it pays .50 a share every 1\4. |

| I tried setting up a virtual dividend account with investopedia. The portfolio increase quite a bit since doing it. I bet for real long term investing it can work out nice for someones portfolio. |

I was just wondering if anybody has does or had done it and how well it worked out.
I know there are all types of trading types out there and this was probably something most frown upon.
But every bodies different. |

I can't say people buy a stock FOR the dividend, because you need to be sure the company can continue to pay the dividend. Plus, dividends are a transfer - it means the company can't see a reason to reinvest more in itself, so it is returning money to stockholders. They are nice to have because you don't need to sell to realize a gain, but keep them in perspective.
The only dividend paying stock I have covered on my site is Alliance Resource, which has a nice 5%+ yield. Feel free to read my ARLP Stock Report for more on the company and why I like the stock - note the date of publication though, it was from earlier in the year. |

| I would not invest in a stock just for the dividend (reinvested or otherwise) but a dividend certainly provides a really nice bonus to a sound stock. The fundamentals for the stock have to be there - just view the dividend as a nice kicker! |
