Four predictions so far, 3 in favor of USF, 1 for WVA. Anyone else?

Just for my own input, would folks prefer that I stick with the more "popular" football conferences like the SEC, PAC-10, BIG 12, and so on? The ACC and Big East are more traditionally basketball conferences, but given the number or ranked teams I figured I should try to move around a bit.

Or I can take suggestions as to which game to run for the next week, if anyone has a particular game of interest they would like to suggest...

I like bouncing around from different conferences. It kind of makes it more interesting. Thats just my opinion though.

Final score was USF 21 WV 13, as the Bulls upset West Virginia at home. According to Yahoo's sports page, only 20% of those picking the game picked USF to win. We had 75% of our pickers correct. If only we were as good at stocks.

The winner is determined first picking the correct winner (bayeauxguy is out) and next by adding up the absolute value of the difference between the predicted scores and the actual scores. The person with the lowest total difference wins e$10,000 from the Bank of Dave. And the numbers are:
Code:
frusnak         USF 35  WV 17   +14 +4 = +18
Dave Rathbun    USF 31  WV 17   +10 +4 = +14
NCSUPAGE        USF 28  WV 21    +7 +8 = +15

So the winner of Dave's Pickskin Pick 'Em is... Dave. Laughing

I get to keep my money for another week.

I am going to hold off on posting next week's Pick 'Em game until Money. If LSU beats Tulane today, and Florida escapes an upset at home from visiting Auburn, then you know the game of choice will be #2 LSU against #4 Florida. The other option might be the Red River Shootout otherwise known as Oklahoma versus Texas.

Anybody have a preference in the game, speak up. I will take suggestions until Monday.

Way to go with your pick Dave Laughing
LSU will beat The Gators! I don't think they have a good enough team to tame the Tigers.

I am going to wait until after the polls to post the pick 'em game this week. Talk about carnage... five of the top-10 teams lost, and USC looked vulnerable against Washington last night. If not for a correctly overturned ruling they might have been looking at an overtime game, and anything can happen there.

LSU got by Tulane.
Florida lost to Auburn. At home. Shocked

Both Red River Shootout participants entered the week in the top 10, and both lost. If you're not familiar with the game, Texas and Oklahoma play their game each year in Dallas, in the Cotton Bowl. The Red River is the river that forms the boundary between Texas and Oklahoma. In past years with both teams ranked it has been quite an in interesting game. Texas lost four in a row, then managed to win two years ago on their way to their national championship with Vince Young.

But with both of them losing (Oklahoma on the road at Colorado lost on a field goal with 2 seconds remaining, and Texas got whipped at home by a fiesty Kansas State team, lost by 20 points) that game will certainly not have the high-ranked teams they thought they were getting.

With Florida losing they'll move down, but probably not out of the top-10, at least that's my prediction. I heard some sports commentators talking about LSU getting more first-placed votes. USC was favored by 21 points and only won by 3. If you didn't watch the game, LSU's final score of 34 - 9 seemed reasonable. If you followed the game then you know that LSU was really flat for the first half. They gave up a safety, and the score was 10-9. In fact at one point Tulane was ahead 9-7.

LSU then played much better in the second half, scoring 24 unanswered points to win 34 - 9. They didn't cover the spread, but they won. Given the carnage that was the top 10 this weekend that's a good sign. Next week they get Florida at home.

Now, with some teams sure to bow out of the top 10, who will move in?

I predict that Kentucky might, as will USF. USF was part of our Pick 'Em game this week, remains undefeated, beat Auburn a couple of weeks ago (who beat Florida this week). Could USF be the best team in Florida right now? That's amazing.

Kentucky has beaten Louisville at home, and Arkansas on the road, on their way to a 5-0 record. They get USC (Carolina) next week, then LSU at home, and play Florida before the end of the season. I think next week's game for Kentucky will be a good indication of how good they are. Their quarterback has certainly shown he has skills.

USF may be a long-shot to crack the top 10, but Boston College should certainly move up. They're 12 or 11 in the polls right now. Rutgers will probably drop 4-5 spots if not more. Oklahoma will potentially stay in the top 10, but lower down than their current 3 (4) ranking. Texas will likely drop out of the top 10. West Virginia may drop to the lower half. So I will predict that Kentucky and BC move into the top 10, with Texas and Rutgers dropping out. USF will be on the doorstep, perhans at 11 or 12.

In the SEC-West:
Alabama lost a close one at Florida State and is now one game behind LSU for the SEC-West title chase.
Arkansas won in a route at home beating over-matched North Texas
Auburn went on the road and stopped Florida's win streak. Ironically the last loss before Florida started their streak was also to Auburn.
LSU beat Tulane on the road
Mississippi lost at Georgia
Mississippi State played USC (Carolina) tight but lost on the road.

The SEC-East appears to be the class of the league with five teams currently looking at title hopes. Kentucky leads the pack with zero SEC losses that but that is sure to change over the next few weeks. I can't see them beating USC, LSU, and Florida. Just behind Kentucky are several teams with only one SEC loss including Florida, Georgia, USC, and even Vanderbilt. I don't think anyone expects Vandy to contend for the title. Wink

Now. Smile

I've been swamped at work, haven't had time to sign on. As expected, the Pigskin Pick 'Em Game this week is Florida Gators visiting the LSU Tigers. We make gumbo out of gator meat in south Louisiana, so beware... Twisted Evil

The current line has LSU favored by 9 points. I hope it's not that close. Tim Tebow has shown that he can throw and run, and he gave LSU fits when they played at Florida last year. Florida has not shown a lot of defense, and I think LSU will be sky-high for this game.

I'm going with LSU 35 Florida 17

Game is on Saturday, so get your picks in by Friday midnight central time to qualify. We need at least 3 players in order to pay, otherwise it's just for fun.

For a bonus pick, guess the total number of yards of offense by both teams within 25 yards (either direction) and win an extra e$5000. You can win one or both of these contests. If more than one person is within 25 yards of the correct total the person that got the closest without going over wins.

My guess for total yards for both teams is 627.

You don't have to enter both contests, you can pick the score, pick the yards, or do both. Let's see some picks, and good luck. Cool

LSU has a bye week, then will be taking on former coach Nick Saban. Everybody hates him down here now. I don't really hold a grudge against him, I just hate the Tide of Alabama...I hope they stomp them...
