2.5 more hours to get your picks in. Game is at 8:00 eastern time Saturday evening. I will try to post the winner on Sunday, and put out the Pick of the Week for the following week.
As an aside, there is another good head-to-head matchup in the SEC as Tennessee visits Florida. Both are ranked; Florida is at home and is going to get its first real test of the season. I will be watching that game with interest as Florida visits LSU in Baton Rouge in a few weeks. |

Well, let's see, first you had to have picked USC to win, so that leaves:
USC to Win
yandig USC 34 Nebraska 24
bayeauxguy USC 30 Nebraska 3
Dave Rathbun USC 28 Nebraska 10
linh3203 USC 17 Nebraska 10
I think that yandig wins the pot, since they picked the highest point total. Ironically wjmathewsx would have won if they had reversed the order of their scores. So, congrats to yandig, your e$ winnings will be sent shortly. The game featured a lot more scoring than I expected, especially since USC's defense is supposed to be one of the best in the country.
Next Week's Pick
I don't think it's a secret that I am a fan of SEC football, so the next Pigskin Pick of the Week will feature a matchup of two ranked SEC teams. South Carolina and Steve Spurrier are going to try to sneak in to LSU's Death Valley and steal one from the Tigers. With the "other" USC coming in ranked (and maybe even higher than their current #17) it might be a better indication of just how good this LSU team really is.
So there you go. This week, pick the winner and the final score for the game between the #2 LSU Tigers and the #17 South Carolina Gamecocks. Winner take all, e$10,000 prize. Deadline for picks is once again Friday, midnight central time. |

I expected Florida to move up, and they did. They've slipped past Oklahoma in the AP and USA Today polls to #3. The USA Today poll even shows some first place votes. Florida plays at Mississippi and at Auburn, both games they should win based on early indications.
South Carolina has jumped up. If LSU is as good as everyone thinks they are, then I don't think they will be that much of a test at home. I think LSU will try to put on some points in order to impress the voters with a second win over a ranked opponent, so my pick is:
LSU 42, USC 10 |

It certainly could. S.C. is looking very good but I think LSU powerful defense can pressure them enough to win. Its an SEC mathcup so I think it will be a very close game with several big plays but my guess is the LSU defense will save the day. |

I would predict the game a lot closer if it were "away" for LSU. But if you have ever been to an LSU home game ... well, there's a reason they call it Death Valley. It's an amazing experience.
When I was a freshman at LSU my room was in the stadium. There's a long story about that... the stadium as a dorm, not the fact that my room was there. The stadium can literally shake. In fact on one game they registered on a seismic (earthquake) detector.
I think Spurrier is a good coach. I think he will do well at USC. I don't think they will compete with LSU at home. Not this year. |
