Hi.

There are a few local businesses in my area that I feel have the potential to grow. Are there any good books (or other resources) that deal with investing in small local businesses?

I'm not sure if my question deals with becoming either an angel investor or VC, but I simply see opportunity here. But I want to educate myself before I invest. In general, I want to properly analyze the business, its market, come up with solutions to increase its potential, and (most importantly) structure a deal that allows me to capitalize on its growth. Any ideas on where to get started?

Thanks.

It appears what I may be asking for is in the area of partnerships. Would what I'm asking for be related to this? If so, are there any good resources to check out?

You are going to want to have a very good lawyer. When investing you want to make sure that you get the contracts to be exactly what you want so the people do not just take off with your cash. Also, always make sure you know what you are buying into. Before you give anyone any money you should have a complete understanding of what the business does and how it makes its money along with the competitors and how general economic events will impact the business.

How about a little more information:

Types of businesses
Your background in business
Local area
Initial investment
Partners?
Time you have to commit

.... etc etc.
