| So far i took somones advice on ETF's and so far they are paying off. Is this a good sign or are they very unpredictable. |

They are less unpredictable (less volitile) than individual stocks (until you get to learn those well). In my first full year of investing (2006), I had some nasty surprises (unexpected news) that caused some of my stocks to drop as much as 30% before I learned what to do. But fortunately most of them bounced back eventually, and one went up enough to more than make up for my losses. But I am glad I got out of that stock last year when it started trending down, because it recently dropped in a day from about 80% of my sale price to 40% (dropped 50% in a day). If an ETF drops 50% in a day we are all in trouble.
So since December, I have just been sitting on a few mutual funds and a mix of ETF's that have gained more year to date than my IRA's did all of last year, and are starting to pass by my 401(k). So I am just starting to more selectively get back into individual stocks.
I may not be winning the eInvesting contest, but note how low my turnover rate is (holding a selection of ETF's). |
