Here's a recap of some of the clues from the topic so far:
I am going to take an item that is small enough to fit in the microscope and take a picture at 200X magnification and post it.
This picture shows a product made by one of the companies in the S&P 500 index.
This is an edible item.
It is not a mineral, as it is an organic item. Processed, but organic in nature
In fact, some of you may have had this item for breakfast this morning, perhaps.
And one new clue... last clue I will post before uploading the 10x version of the picture. This item is most typically eaten for breakfast, but can also be an ingredient in bread or cookies or muffins. |

Butter ... it's an interesting guess, but no.
Butter could be a component of breakfast, but unless you are a bit strange I don't think you would eat butter by itself.
[Edited for typo's]

We have a winner! You're on a roll, you're the reigning champ of the math challenge topic too.
I will post the 10x picture later tonight when I get home. Once you get out that far it starts to take shape as an oatmeal flake. And this particular oatmeal was from Quaker which is owned by PepsiCo which is - as stated in the original post - one of the S&P 500 companies.
Nice guess. I assume the clues had something to do with it. |

e$5,000 send to conbrio for winning the What Am I? Challenge #1. I will post the 10x picture of the oatmeal later tonight, and I already have selected the 200x picture to start the next challenge. I actually think the next one is very guessable at 200x, so we'll have to wait and see.
Just like the Math Challenge topic, I'm going to set a rule that you can't win two contests in a row. That will hopefully keep it interesting as we get new players.
And thanks to Grim for bankrolling the increased prize payouts. |

| the clues helped quite a bit as did a wife who is a fabulous cook, who eats oatmeal 3 or 4 times a week. she helped me with the guess. |

As promised, here is the 10x picture:
I think someone would have guessed after this picture. Then again, maybe not. These are uncooked oatmeal flakes viewed at 10x magnification. |
