| My daughter is 16 and we have no college savings for her. She's a straight A student and just barely missed qualifying for national merit. I really believe she will get a scholarship, but there are a lot of people out there that say scholarships are rare even for bright students. Can anyone offer any advice? |

| Make the numbers work for her: apply to a huge number of scholarships. There are computer programs out there that tell you how to send out hundreds of applications easily. I'll try to find one of the names for you, but I know radio talk show host Dave Ramsey talks about this on his show a lot. |

If your daughter is strong academically, has strong SATs, and is heavily involved in extracurricular activities then start filling in any application you can get your hands on.
If one of those areas is lacking (grades, involvement, and other admissions requirements/factors), then the chances of scholarships are significantly reduced. You can still apply, but many of the larger and well known scholarships will go to incredibly bright students. It's a pretty cut-throat process they have. |
