| How much do you guys spend on average per week or month on groceries. I know this will vary by city or area and by how many people you have in your family. I try to spend a lot at the grocery store so that we don't end up eating out or going to the convenience store mid week. |

| Our family of four usually spends between $75 and $110 a week, but that includes some non-grocery items too. |

| I'm really trying to cut down on my grocery bill. But I'm trying to stock up on sale/clearance items by matching sales with coupons;. Wish me luck! |

Good luck! If you use a credit card to pay for your groceries, I suggest considering the Platinum Citi Dividend Mastercard (it should be available as Visa also). You can get a 5% rebate back on all grocery purchases! |

to save money on groceries check out the non-union wal-mart super stores.
i mention union status for those who have issue with such things.
however if union status is not an issue with you it may be worth a look to compare the prices on the things you buy regularly.
the key here is to shop off peak hours to avoid the lines and crowds.
to be taken with a grain of salt... i believe the walmart ceo is on record as having said that wal-mart will save shoppers 40% as they build out the state california market.
i have no affiliation with the wal-mart company and own no stock. |

I spend maybe $30-40 max on groceries each week. I buy meat bulk and stuff them in my freezer. I could probably build a huge frankenstein pig out of my freezer if I wanted to.
Personally, I hate Walmart ethics (although I admire their business model in a pure economic sense), but I buy their Equate brand or Great Value if I can. They're usually perfect substitutes for the item they're cloning. Saves me a bundle each month. |

| I am an empty nester and old habits die hard. I make a meal plan each week, then make a list of what I need for each dinner and all the other things needed for the week. I then go through the sales papers (bogof is great). If something is bogof and not on my list, I add it (Then if there is ever a week that the money is thin, I have extras in the freezer and they usually last 1-2 weeks.) I then go through the coupons and clip. This all takes awhile, but it is worth it in the end! So we will have a big bill once a month and smaller (still adding bogof) or nothing for the rest of the month. |

| I live in a family of 5 and our grocery bill is around $300-500 dollars each week. We tend to eat a lot of exspenive food. I doubt that this is anyway close to what the average is. This includes everything that we would eat for the week. We normally get take out atleast once a week if not more. |

With a family of 5, I assume that some are children. It would be interesting to know approximately how old they are. My wife and I have two boys both under 5 and we dont' spend anywhere near that much. It helps that their current favorite lunch is PB&J.

I'm betting you're over the average. In fact, I found this article which suggests that the average for a family of four with two children between 6 and 11 with "moderate" spending habits spends only $156 per week. Another statistic quoted in the article: 14% of an average family's non-tax expenses are for food. |

| Everyone the three children are all teenagers. We spend much less then 14% of the total income on food but I see where that percentage could come from. |

| One word of wisdom is that often cheaper veggies are better for you. Both your body and your wallet. |

Not total income, your non-tax expenses.
If you make $3000 a month, and pay $1200 a month in taxes, that leaves $1800 a month. Take 14% of that number, not the total income. That's the way I read that anyway. |
