I'll take EBAY at $29.64. I figure with all those summer travelers not wanting to pay a mortgage for gas they'll just rbeak our that credit card and buy a nice video on line showing them their favorite tourist destinations....

We'll get one set up as of June when the contest starts.

I'm a bit confused though about picking the entry point. For the first contest we got the price as of market open on Jan 1. I assumed this one would be market open price as of June 1. If you don't all start at the same calendar point it's not exactly a fair game, is it? Or am I missing the point, which is entirely possible given the baking my brain has taken after the past several days of camping in the desert... Razz

Obviously it wouldn't be fair to let people try and pick their prices....especially letting fokes pick prices from several weeks ago like some people think they are gonna do. Laughing And it may not be fair to let fokes pick next Wed's closing price since they could scour the after hours news releases to give themselves a slight advantage. That leaves 2 options. 1) You get the opening price on June 1 or 2) Run it like da weekly challenge. The stock must close at or above $5 on May 31....at that point you could pick your entry price and you don't get in until your price target gets hit. For instance: I might play F....but I wouldn't play it at the May 31 closing price....but if I was allowed to play it at the price I think it will hit sumtime over the next 6 months I might! Very Happy And that price will be below $5 too! But as long as F closes above $5 on May 31 it would still qualify...even if my entry price was below $5.....Using option number 2 we could find out just who the good stock pickers are. I'm workin reeeeal hard to get my pick for the May competition down to around 4.30 like I said was a possibility when I posted my play SGTL....if I can get er dunn taday or on Tue I might still win the May competition! Wish me luck! For da record...I prefer option number 2 as mentioned above Very Happy

Ben, you'll need to confirm how you want this contest to run at some point. It doesn't have to run the same way as the one-year contest, I guess, but I think some sort of clarification is required.

Go lookk at the last few pages of the million dollar thread, it was this way for several months. Why add confusion to it just days before this one is to start????

Grim, if you already have a pick in the million dollar contest, you can't pick a stock in this one.

Well...all I know is dat Domgen definitely should not get EBAY at 29.64.....even though it'll trade to 29.64 sumtime over the next 6 months. Wink Very Happy I didn't play da million e$ contest but I will play thiss'n right cheeeya. I'm just waiting to see what the determing factor is on the stawtin price....that's all. I like the $5 minimum cause with stocks priced at $5-$10 at least ya gots a shot! I'm still on da record as saying to chort the entire e$ port (cep't GLW till it takes out da high) and have been ever since that contest stawted. We'll see how things end up befo da year is out. Just a friendly reminder once agin....check those 3 year chawts on yer fa-vo-rite plays! Just so ya know where yer stock is headin. Wink Very Happy

I'll say one thing and then stay out of it from this point forward...

It's a six month contest. If the contest was to pick a stock that appreciates the most in a six month period, that's different than picking a stock that will run from July 1 to the end of the year. If you want to pick a stock and an entry date / associated price and let it run for six months, that's one thing. But if everyone is going to pick a stock for the final six months of the year, then in my opinion everyone should start on July 1 (note, not June 1 as I posted earlier) just like the year-long contest did.

It's Ben's deal, he can run it anyway he chooses. But in my opinion you get the price on July 1 going forward, or you get a stock pick for six months from the date you picked it, but you can't pick a stock price from Feb or Mar and use it to enter the six month contest... you have several months of gains already in the bank, which isn't exactly a level playing field. In other words, you can't take advantage of a pick from March that may have gone up 50% already and use that as the entry point for the contest, everyone has to start at zero. Doesn't that make sense?

Shutting up now, y'all have fun, whatever you decide. I'm in the other contest so I'm not even eligible for this one anyway.

I agree Dave...da rules be a tad confusing....but I gots no objection to starting on June 1 instead of July 1. and I have no objection to getting a starting price based on market close or open. I definitely object to cherry picking a stock based on a price from 3 months ago though...but I don't object that vehemently since in most cases stocks will be retesting 3 month lows anyhoo...which means sum playas will have to backtrack as I move forward! I would agree that it would seem more logical to start on July 1st, though June is fine with me.

If this was going to be a regular contest....running every 6 months, it might make it easier to start on July & Jan. 1st.

I say price the entries @ open on June 1st & run the "6-month contest" for 7 months. This is because those of us who already chose stocks chose them based on recent priced & may not choose the same ones 30 more days from now. Just a thought.

Grim,

Thanks for the feedback. We'll see what happens but truth be told if I really wanted to try and win I figure I should have taken a smaller company with more potential for upswing. But reagardless we'll see what happens. Don't put all the eggs in one basket....

Oops no such luck here!

No problemo Domgen....no harm no foul. Very Happy I was just pointing out that if we's gonna run any competitions everybody should stawt at da stawtin line and not halfway down da track. Very Happy Looks like this thing won't be organizized in time for a June 1 start anyhoo. In da meantime there's still the mumphly n da weekly competitions if ya like goin fo da win. Wink

I really screwed this one up.

The idea of the long-term portfolio contest was to pick a stock a week or so before the start and then everyone see's where it goes from the price it opens at for the run.

I know some people will be mad, but I think I need to do this...if even for my own sanity. Wink

I will start a thread about a week before July 1st and anyone that isn't in the year-long competition can enter a pick for the 6 month contest that ends at the same time the year-long competition does.

It's the same game, only for half the time and half the e$ prize (500,000).

Once I start the contest I'll list all the rules then, but here is a preview:

1. You can only enter the 6 month contest if your not in the yearly one.
2. You don't need to tell me a price because you'll get whatever it opens at Monday July 3rd.
3. Minimum stock price is $5.
4. Place your pick in the thread once I start it. Once you post your stock it's locked in and nobody else can take it.
5. You cannot pick what someone else has picked.

I just want to make it fair for everyone...sorry about the mix up.
