Using cash makes it difficult to track spending. I usually keep a $20 bill hidden in my wallet for emergencies. After Hurricane Katrina, most businesses would only accept cash--so you've got to plan for events like this. Cash appears to disappear as if you have a whole in your pocket.

I like credit cards better. They record everything.

...which is good and all, unless you start owing 20%+ on the interest payments. Then its just not worth it. The bottom line is that credit cards aren't intrinsically evil, if you can be responsible using and paying them off.

I agree with dhale. Using cash makes it very hard to track spendage. And it's not too good to be going out with friends who always have money in their pockets lol, makes for an awkward outing

I lost my wallet last year, I had about 30 dollars in it. That wasent my big loss I had my california ID and my social security card in it. I wouldent have mind if someone found and kept the money and mu wallet the big thing was all the hassle with the DMV for my new ID because they said I needed to show them my SS card and the SS office said I couldent get a lew SS card without a California drivers linces. In the end I found an older copy of an orignal SS card my mother got when I was born and I got andther ID and another SS card in case of future problems!!!

Yeah a card is better than cash because you will use the card less than cash but its still good to have emergencie funds because all places dont accept a card.

If I carry cash like above around a $20 bill I don't spend. Debit/Credit cards seem easier to spend, there isn't an emotional tie to the cards.

Now if I can just get my wife to quit using either I would be in good shape.
