Now that it's so easy to tell how many trades you have for the month I feel we should have some extra rewards for those who are trading consistently.
Everyone that has over 31 trades for the month will get a 5,000 e$ bonus. 31 trades would average at least one buy or sell trade per day for the month.
Of the active traders we'll award these e$ prizes (If you win it all your still entitled to this reward as well, also this includes the 5k for the 31 trades):
1st: 25,000 e$
2nd: 20,000 e$
3rd: 15,000 e$
Finally, whoever makes the MOST trades in May will receive a fine Porsche worth 50,000 e$ as long as you show a POSITIVE return!

Ben, I would like to suggest that a positive return is required for all of the prizes, otherwise people will just "spam" trades. I can make 2,000 trades at e$10 each and still come out ahead by winning the e$25,000 prize. |

Ah, let me clear that up, Thanks Dave.
This 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize, is anyone with over 31 trades ranked by percentage gain.
The overall active prize is for the most trades overall, BUT can still show a positive return. |

So Ben, how about if we rename the "Active Rankings" option to Active Posters or something like that, and add a new entry "Active Traders" that sorts / displays only those traders with over 31 trades for the month.... ?
The current link is http://www.einvesting.com/memberlist.php?mode=active and that would not change, since it would require finding links around the site and updating them. But the new link could be something like http://www.einvesting.com/memberlist.php?mode=traders and it would work the same way, except based on trade count instead of post count.
Can someone with 31 trades and zero posts still win? Or do they have to be active traders and active posters? |

How do I always keep ending up making more work?
I guess I was envisioning that you could be considered active by either having 30+ trades in a month or by completing 10 posts.
This contest is just for active traders.
I'll need to differentuate between Active Traders and Active Posters. |

Just let me know the definition. If you need to be an active poster to be considered an active trader, or if they're independent. As long at the field is not a calculation (like net worth) it takes all of about 10 minutes to add a new entry to the listing. Last month I added the code to store the monthly trade activity count each time a trade is made, or each time the myreturn page is refreshed, so I already have the data needed for this.
Like I said, I just need to know if an active trader needs to be an active poster or not. If active traders don't have to be active posters then their list will be different. If active traders need to be active posters to qualify for the prize, then this list will be a subset of the active poster list.
For example, last month we had 9 folks with 31 trades or more. Of those nine, eight were active posters as well. Here are the trade counts (in descending order) and matching April post counts (no names listed)
| Code: | Trades Posts
108 266
65 238
52 121
41 5
40 12
39 23
38 261
37 22
31 24
30 22
28 14
23 24
23 2
23 111
21 14

I think it should be either or to qualify. If you really just want to actively use the Sim and not talk you should qualify for prizes. Plus people may want to sneek-peek their portfolio's. heh
This still weeds out members that buy one stock and disappear forever and end up with the best portfolio.
It's the number of trades to qualify that may be up for debate. I think 30 should make you active. |

Okay, to clarify... from your description it sounds like you're combining active posters and active traders. I thought you wanted separate lists... |

Separate lists?
Oh. So just the active traders compete in one and then just the active posters compete in another?
I would combine them, or is that tougher? |

| I think that it depends on what you think is the best for the site. It's one thing to just sit there and make trades. It's another to actually contribute to the site. I think that it's would be great to have some incentives (e$) for active traders. I don't think that you would want this to qualify to be in the $money$... |

Will there be a reward for people who have good returns but nearly NO trades for the month? Don't discriminate... |

Yeah it's called the monthly portfolio challenge and it already exists. Either your strategy prevails or not.
I think he is looking for people that can easily beat the brokers, I'm not sure though. |
