Granted, credit cards can be a real problem. However, when they are used properly they are an excellent tool to build credit.
I think the best thing our society can do is educate young adults on how credit cards work, and just how fast they can add up. Many just don't understand. Another trickery thing credit card companies do is there is only 21 days grace, not 30-31. Also, if you miss a payment your interest rate can automatically jump double digits.
It's amazing that many students do not fully read the terms that they agree to. I realize that it can be a little monotonous but when it comes down to it, it's your money that's gonna be eaten up by interest charges!
When I first got my credit card I read everything, and am I ever glad I did because there were things that I didn't know. |

Ben found the picture... but its Warren eating at a Dairy Queen to promote the stores, which he owns.
And yes, I do think Warren is a pretty cool guy. Maybe someday I can be like him.  |

Oh I agree with you there, but its often a tricky game with credit card companies, because at the end of the day, they hold all the cards. Between being able to change your interest rate at a whim, to delaying cashing large checks, and the always favorite: changing card terms every few months via an insert in the statement in barely readable font.
Maybe I'm just bitter though, because I've been burned by a lot of the credit card companies pretty bad. But at least I know which ones tend towards being honest, and now I know what banks I shouldn't consider for other loans. (Oddly enough, its the banks I really despise that keep sending me offers to refinance my home).
Of course, I won't deny that I still take that occasional CC that'll give you 0% interest and no fee balance transfers for a year that go straight into ING/Emigrant/HSBC. |

to all who seek the credit card: use it only in emergencies and to build credit, if you cant handle having it in you're wallet, leave it at home.
for me the things are tempting

That's the key, for me anyway. I only take it when I'm going out of town in case of an emergency like the possibility of the vehicle breaking down and needing a tow. :/ |
