Plus 5% doesn't leave much room for profits unless it's a high priced stock with loads of shares.

I don't know who told you that, but I think that is an exceptionally bad idea. How do you expect to make anything if you sell whenever you are up 5%?
Hey, you can always try it in the sim...

I played this game back in the 1980's and was keeping track of stocks by pencil and paper. It was fun then and it's even more fun now playing the same game with the pleasure of having a computer keeping records of all investments and transactions. Cool idea!

Depends on your ability to/tolerance for research. It does work, but you don't dare turn your back on your portfolio. That much churn (1) runs up the your broker's checkbook and (2) requires trading big dollar stocks... or small stocks in large lots.... to make any $$ Safety requires that you monitor the market constantly.

Never forget, it's not the percent of investment you take to the bank- it's the dollars and cents. Don't get overly hung up on ROI percents- Pay more attention to what you're banking each month in hard cash.

This is the place to try your theories though. Give it a go- this is the only place where that kind of learning is free. Trust me Smile

What makes einvesting.com really different from other stock simulators is the incredibly friendly people on their forums that are more than willing to go the extra mile and give you an informative answer to any question, however "basic" you think it might be!

A couple of months ago, I considered dabbling in the stock market for the first time.

Einvesting gave me the opportunity to 'buy' those Google shares and get a taste of dizzying horror as they plunged from $455. The first of many helpful insights. Wink
