| My father works for a company with the "." and I would like to invest in it. I was just curious why you can not trade it on this site. Thank You. Any information is useful! |

We ran into a lot of problems with them changing symbols too often.
I dunno, maybe we can allow .'s as long as they are over a certain price. |

| I thought there other reasons as well. Like the uncertainty of these companies, considering they get "de-Listed". I know there were many other good reasons. |

Removing the "dot" was a cheap and easy way to eliminate penny stocks. But at the same time we also put in place a limit to prevent stocks trading under $2 a share. It also prevents people from trading options, which (on Yahoo) always end with ".X". Options trading will be coming back, once we get the system configured correctly. Some of those changes were put in place in the last round of updates.
Anybody have an invalid symbol in their portfolio? It doesn't lock you out anymore.
Anyway, the rules can be altered, it's up to Benjamin. |

| We could try it next month perhaps and see how many symbols we have to change. I'm up for it. |

| I wish we could trade dot stocks - then I could buy some commodities that made my dad some money back in the day, and I could jump on corn while the young ethanol industry builds up. The new high demand from the US government to use ethanol fuels and get us "less addicted to oil" as Bush said today in his first speech should be enough to get the industry on track IMO. |

| Every single president since the 60's has been say the same thing, what would make people think any different because Bush says the same boring B.S. about oil and our depedency for it. |

Iono, maybe because there are actually car companies mass producing vehicles that take the E-85 ethanol fuel now, Congress said something about doubling our use of it by 2012, and it's really better than oil overall.
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH)
Ethanol is a liquid fuel that derives from plant matter. It is a sustainable resource that can be produced domestically and can be replenished indefinitely. The blending of ethanol with gasoline, or its use in place of gasoline or diesel fuel, supports the U.S. economy and contributes to energy independence. Vehicles running on blends of ethanol and gasoline, using ethanol as an oxygenate, produce significantly fewer harmful emissions than vehicles burning gasoline. Unlike petroleum-based fuels, ethanol produces no net carbon dioxide emissions.
More info on ethanol is available at the Renewable Fuels Association website: http://www.ethanolrfa.org/
Who knows? I'm new to the game and I'm probably wrong, but don't chastise me for having an opinion. |
