A new twist on new construction is the pre-fab homes. We're not talking mobile homes or the old-style cheaper ones, but $200,000 and $300,000 ones. Some areas are reporting a growing acceptance for these.

One of the homes in our neighborhood was moved in on 2 trucks. They put the 2 pieces together and tadah - a home. I think the home looks great and fits in with our newer neighborhood. I am not sure about the construction of these types of homes, however.

I was also wondering if they are assessed separately from the land like a mobie home or is it all on one tax assessment?
Thanks

There are tons of these homes being built in Florida and they have to meet all of the same stringent building codes as the "stick built" homes.

A house like that would make me nervous. Especially in a state where they had hurricanes or tornadoes.

Where I live, you don't only hear about pre-fab homes but pre-fab additions as well. When we added onto our home last year- a pre-fab was an option. Not tons cheaper for us though- so we went the traditional route!

In the UK pre-fabricated housing doesnt sound very glamorous because we associate it with the tiny, cheap ( although ultimately sturdy and well loved ) houses built to replace stock lost to bomb damage in World War Two. However we currently have a lot of house building / house makeover programmes on TV and one pre-fabricated construction was intended to fit into a traditional English village with a lot of Georgian and even Tudor housing. The strange thing was it really didn't look out of place at all, had very high standard interior fittings and was really cheap to build. I think there may be a great future in these.
