Only going to do two a week, otherwise I'll run out too soon. The next challenge will be posted somewhere around noon (CST) tomorrow. It's less of a math challenge and more of a visual / logic puzzle for the next one. |

I bought a book of math and logic puzzles a while back to use as challenges for another board I run. There it was for pride and fun only. Here it will be for e$500 per winning answer... first winning answer to each puzzle. Some of the puzzles are going to be actual math problems, others require logical thinking instead. I'm going to post no more than two challenges per week, and will try to post them at different times of the day in order to give folks that sign on at various different times a shot at winning the challenge. The rules:
- The answer in the book is final. Blame the publisher, not me, if you don't agree
- The first person to post the correct answer wins. Posting only, no PM's please.
- You cannot win two challenges in a row, so the previous winner is not eligible for the next challenge.
- You may win more than one challenge, just not two in a row.
I won't post any more than one puzzle per day. That will let people argue over the answers. Thanks for playing

Here's your 3rd e$ Challenge Puzzle!
Using the following grid, find out how many different ways to spell the word "ACE". You may move one letter at a time, horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, but only one letter at a time (meaning you can't "jump" over one letter to get to another).
| Code: | A
A C A
A C E C A
A C A
A |

12 is the correct answer. This one was easy. There are some harder ones coming up too.
The next puzzle will be posted later this week, next time I'll post it in the evening so the later folks get first shot at solving the problem. |

500 e$ sent to conbrio
e$ Challenge Winner #1 Iceemaan
e$ Challenge Winner #2 nelaina
e$ Challenge Winner #3 conbrio
e$ Challenge Winner #4 ???
Stay tuned and see.
BTW, as the puzzles are posted you'll see some apparent patterns. For example, I peeked ahead and in a few days we will have a puzzle very similar to #3 but with a different arrangement of letters. But for this puzzle (the forthcoming one) the letters can be used more than once. So the solution to one puzzle may help (or hurt) your chances at solving the next. |

Here's your 4th e$ Challenge Puzzle!
Add math symbols between the 2's to make every equation true. You may use plus, minus, times, and divide symbols, as well as parenthesis or brackets for grouping. As an example, I have solved the first one for you.
2 2 2 2 = 0 is solved by 2 + 2 - 2 - 2
2 2 2 2 = 1
2 2 2 2 = 2
2 2 2 2 = 3
2 2 2 2 = 4
2 2 2 2 = 5
2 2 2 2 = 6
2 2 2 2 = 10
2 2 2 2 = 12
e$ Challenge Winner #1 Iceemaan
e$ Challenge Winner #2 nelaina
e$ Challenge Winner #3 conbrio
e$ Challenge Winner #4 ???
I know I said I was going to post the next one in the evening, but I'm going to be busy tonight and wanted to go ahead and get this one out there. I will post a puzzle or two in the later hours next week. |
