Obviously knowing the number value of the square you are buying would be nice, but it would have taken the fun out of the process because the first two or three people could take the good squares.
Anyone doing another one of these should stay away from 5 and 2 especially... those are the least likely to come up. |

You take the "ones" digits for the score at the end of each quarter, and look it up on the grid. Suppose that the score after the first quarter is Pitt 10, Seattle 7. You would find the 0 column on the Pitt side, and the 7 column on the Seattle side, and find out where they cross. The person that owns that square (BallJacker in this case) wins the prize for the first quarter.
That's why you have to buy the squares before the numbers are on the grid, because nobody would ever buy 2 and 3, as that's a very unlikely football score. 3-2 would mean a field goal and a safety. |
ok good thanks...
i was thinking that the numbers are the actual score, so i was confused as to what would happen if either score was in the double digits. |

Nobody running this game correctly will ever give out the numbers before the board is filled up.
2 is rough, because the most typical ways to get 2 are a safety (very rare), 4 field goals (it happens) or two TD's and two missed extra points (almost never), or 42 (6 TD's). 3 is easier because you get a field goal, or two field goals and a TD (13). It's tough to get 23 or 33, so 3 is not good for a high-scoring game. 4 is good (14 and 24 are common, 4 would be extremely unlikely). 6 is good (two field goals, a TD and 3 field goals for 16). 7 and 1 are nice for later quarters because you'll see scores like 21-7, or 27-21, or even 31-27. (31 = 28 + 3)
Anyway, if you put out a board with numbers on it, you would probably never sell the board out.
I knew someone that ran a $100 per square board. $100 per square * 100 squares = $10,000 total. The would buy a $10K cd after the game from the prior year, and then use the interest for the CD to pay for the Superbowl Party the following year. Everyone that bought a square was invited to the party, and had a chance at $2500 per quarter. After the game, they would pony up $100 per square for the following year and repeat. |

If someone gets a chance can you post the scores during the game (Quarters, half and final).
I'm going to be away from any computers for a while. |

| Real money is better, I'll admit. But my brother and I were a missed field goal at the half from sweeping the whole show! |
