I don't think we could retire until at least 70+ years old. And even then, for sanity's sake, we'll keep some kind of part-time job. Hello, Walmart????

I disagree, I see myself retiring @ 55. I think the steps I am taking now will ultimately allow me to retire with a comfortable nest egg.

We should all combine ideas and put them to work.

As the average age of death increases, so does the retirement age....

Being my age, i cant see myself retiring till at least 70!

I have a friend at work who is 74 tyears old and working full time, due to poor financial planning and the fact she was widowed early. I do not want to be working that hard at her age.

My husband has a 20 year military pension already, is a Civil Service worker now (with another federal pension) and I work for a major company with a pension which is all company paid (Not a big pension but free money). With social security (maybe), investments in my 401K over the years and his federal Thrift Savings Plan we hope to retire when we are 62.... Smile

I think if I stay in good health, it'll be hard to start drawing out my hard-earned money from savings and using it up.

I hope to retire early and I hope to have my husband retire early. However, like the previous posters, a small part time job would maybe keep us busy and social!

I will not be able to retire until I am 63ish. I career changed into the teaching profession at age 30 and with such a late start, I need to work longer to receive higher retirement benefits. I do love my job and hope to love it this much when I am 63!!!

Make a fund now, Put spare money into it, In the futur you will love this idea, it will help you out so much, my grandad did it when he was younger, he put in 15pounds everyweek when he was working, maybe more sometimes, after 40-45 years that fund was huge, and he didint even really miss the money when he was younger.

I was laid off my job for 8 mths. We needed to use up a lot of our savings. I'm sick about it but we had to pay the mortgage. Now I need to just focus on rebuilding.

Retirement is so scary.

There is the financial side of retirement that you have to worry about if you are not financially ready and then there is the emotional side. My mother is financially able to retire but not mentally. She enjoys her job and at 72 does not forsee herself retiring any time soon.

I work at a large plant. We have so many people that want to retire, but can't. Insurance is so expensive. The company has now starting a savings plan for insurance that the company matches. You can start investing in it until you're 45. I plan on starting as soon as I can.
