An FDA panel declared today that the use of these drugs for suffering patients outweighs the dangers and recommends that they stay on the market. Strong warnings will be issued on the label and to doctors about the dangers though. While it's likely that the FDA will approve Celebrex and Bextra more quickly, Vioxx is likely to be approved as well, though it didn't get the recommendation the others did. If put back on the shelf, Vioxx would still be an approved drug.

Pfizer's, makers of Bextra and Celebrex, shares rose 1.74 to 26.80 upon hearing the news. Merck, maker of Vioxx, also rose 3.76 to 32.61 as the news spread.

Drug companies seem like they can be a risky investment!

That they can be. Look at the Martha Stewart fiasco with the drug that was first disapproved by the FDA, causing her to dump her stock, only to be picked up again and approved later on.

These companies need to be more open about the risks of the drugs. Most consumers are intelligent enough to make their own decisions on the risks.

The pharmacutical industry is large if you keep on top of it properly. Any of these biotech companies have the potential of making a breakthrough. Just keep your eye on the medical science side.

Even though the drug companies say they are safe now, the damage has been done with the public being wary to use them. To me it would be a wary investment at this point.

I am a nurse. A nurse is supposed to be the patients last defense against error. Oh, don't we feel angry, scared, frustrated, ineffective when suddenly meds are pulled. Had a mom in last week due to the Adderall XR probs in Canada. It's all about power and $. grrr

I would also be wary to invest in this market. Too many ups and downs, on again off agains.
