Has anyone ever set up a site to sell off of Amazon.com.. Do you actually make money or would it be best to go another route?

I have purchased a used book from Amazon and was very pleased. I don't know if their seller fees are higher , but I heard that they were.

I have setup a "marketplace" in Amazon. The fees are relatively smaller than Ebay's when I did it. Its very easy and you get plenty of exposure especially if you adjust your price. I've sold mainly books, some electronic components. Give it a shot! |

I have not done it, but I shop a lot at these stores, so Im sure it would not be a bad business.

I've sold 2 things on amazon, I really should do more. Fees are very high, but I like how they have set shipping fees, and you don't pay anything if your item doesn't sell.

Yes, the "only pay if you sell" is a real draw for me. On ebay you just never know if someone is going to snatch your book for 99 cents or if there will be a bid war or no sale at all (but you still pay the fees). At least with Amazon you know that your book will sell at a good price or not at all and either way you aren't out anything.

I have a bunch of stuff (mostly books) to sell and I was going to try Amazon. Is it worth it to set up an EBay account as well?

I have both. I usually sell my books on Amazon and other stuff on Ebay. If it is not a very popular item it won't always sell on Ebay so it isn't always worth the fees. You really have to take time to browse Ebay's completed listings to see what sells and at what price.

Am I correct in thinking that on Amazon if you buy several items off one seller there's no way of arranging combined postage ? Believing this has put me off purchasing in the Amazon marketplace in the past and if it is true I expect it is hindering sales over all.

Actually I am not sure, but that is a good question. But I do believe it would be rare to buy several books from one seller unless you are buying all of the same book.

I sell on both Amazon and eBay. The both have their positives and negatives.
I like Amazon more because the item stays on until it gets sold. The commission rates are much lower for computers and electronics. However, for items like books and household items, the commission is 15%.
One severe limitation of Amazon is that you cannot list anything on there that is not already on the website.
With eBay, I am always afraid of the fradulent buyers. |
