Assuming my husband and I plan to retire in 2020, I am wondering if there are any books out that that "project" what kind of money you will need to retire that far in the future. It is hard for the average person to figure out how far say, $50,000 will go in the future. To ask it another way.... if we currently live on $50K/year, how much will we need per year for retirement in approximately 2020, assuming no mortgage payments are needed. ANY good retirement books have these kinds of projections?

I'm not sure about books, but I know I've seen very similar information printed in some of the (free) Individual Retirement Account brochures that came from local banks. They had inflation indexes that you could use to project how much you would need in the future, etc.

Thanks for the info. I will look into my banks info. I was also wondering about projections. We will be ready to retire in 2025. Wow does that seem far away!!!
