I know the auto industry is doing horrible, but I wanted to trade this one short term. GM recently got a $7 billion bailout by congress but it was limited by the republicans. I read somewhere that when the new president gets sworn in he is going to revise that loan. Do you think it's a good idea to buy now and then sell on January 20th?

If I haven't learned anything else over the years, I've learned not to try to time things. If the stock is oversold, or has value that has not been recognized by the market, then it's a "buy". But here....I think you're trying to shave a pig. In other words...theory says it can be done, but the realities are far more complex Wink

Not only that....but if I was going to get brave on automotives...it would be Ford. Though it's a huge company, the family is still very involved in the ownership. They not only have money at stake, but reputation and "face".

However...I'm leaving automotives alone, even though I'm a big fan of Ford and their business over the years.

Having "family" at Ford is what has screwed them up. The only car the did right was the Mustang and poo-ppoed everything else. They could have done something great with Jaguar but we all know what happened to those converted Tauruses, lol.

You missed your chances if you ask me. I don't see a rally if they get more bailout money, I see a rally if they don't need it. After Bush giving money I think most feel that its now TBTF.
