I look at charts a lot and see the dividend symbols ^ and the amount ex. .26^ and then i see on the same chart for the next quater .23 with a downward arrow are these both a positive. I realize that (-.32) is a negative. It is the arrows that are confusing me. Can some one explain?

If one is 0.26^ and the next one is 0.23v that may be a bad sign that profits have decreased, hence the lower dividend. But you need to look more into the actual financials of the company to see if their earnings decreased, and/or if they are using more of their income to develop their business (research, new products, buyouts, etc.) or buy back their stock.

In other words do they just have more normal expenses and less income, or are they investing more to increase future business or earnings per share?
