Intel has announced that wireless USB should be available late this year or early next year.

Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is the technology behind wireless USB. It allows transmissions at up to 480 mbps for up to a maximum range of 10 meters. The first version of the specification is expected to be completed at the end of the month with the MBOA (Multi-band OFDM Alliance) Media Access Control (MAC) being finished later this year.

Wireless USB will also include security capabilities (hopefully better than 802.11b's WEP) as well as the 'wake,' 'sleep' and 'listen' functions of standard USB.
