If you watch her show enough she gives you plenty of other good ideas on how to consolidate debt or just pay it off faster.

The hole not using your house to pay off all your debt is mainly because most people are not smart enough to keep from running out and just charging up all those freshly payed off credit cards!!

Plus if anything happend and you needed to sell your house you no longer have an equity built up.

I'd only use my house as a last resort to pay off debt. For example, if I was in a medical emergency. But, I wouldn't use it to go out and by a new speed boat or invest in some once in a lifetime hot stock tip I just got all of a sudden.

Sheeeyot....if I had bought a house in say San Diego in 2001 I'd be sittin on $250000+ in equity right now. Not only would I use the equity to buy a speedboat, cars, waste it on hoochie girls, beer, and outright revelry.....I'd also turn it into a last resort fer illegal Aliens crossin da border. If ya kin fit 25 Mexicalis into a 1987 Chevy van ya kin fit 75 of em into a $700000 house in San Diego. At $8 bucks per wetback per night dats alotta KA CHING as me good buddy...Dylan Rats! I lost again!...would say. You should be able ta pawty hawdy for at least a couple of years. Then you could tern da place back into da bank and say.."no thanks" and begin da process all over again by buying at 2001 prices again in the year 2008.....after da housing bubble collapses. Sound like a plan to you? Try it! Laughing

Suze is very conservative with $ advice. There are some advantages to tapping equity - lower int. rate and tax deduction. But you need to be disciplined to make it work. Cut up those credit cards.
