Chances are that you just got put onto a "hot list" for young brokers to cold call, soliciting business.

American Express, which employs a lot of brokers, will more than likely now sell the information you provided for the "free" guide, to one of their brokers for about $5, since you are now classified as a "hot lead" (someone who is interested in investing, doesn't know a ton about it, and is willing to "learn" while they sell you everything they can, and make a 5% commission on every mutual fund, 7% on every annuity, 90% of your first year premium on life insurance policy, 5% on each 529 plan, and the kitchen sink, you buy).

There's nothing wrong with filling in your information and receiving the guide - just be prepared to say "No" - "Please put me on your Do Not Call List" when the individual calls you.

If you simply say "No" and end the conversation (which is very hard to do, in and of itself when dealing with high pressure sales), you will continue to receive calls from other brokers looking to sell you the "mutual fund or annuity of the day."

Understand that 90%+ of a broker's training is sales training - anyone who has been there for a year is going to be good at it. Sadly, most financial "professionals" know next to nothing, but are trained to look like experts. Do not trust them.
