I am an Australian resident and find it expensive to play in the big pond from here.
Brokerage costs and communication are constant problems.
However to get around that I use CFDs via CMC, they are a spread betting company based in England.

There online trading platform is excellent, it includes news charts, and you can enter in pre-defined stops and entrys.
They don't include all US stocks but all the main ones. Also commodities, FX and other markets worldwide.

I have no interest with them other than I use them to trade worldwide from one account.
I just thought I would post this here for others who like myself want to trade other markets but find it extremly difficult
