Is it possible to sell short stocks in this game? I think that selling short should be an option as predicting drops in price are just as difficult as predicting gains.

This is not an option at this time. However the game has been evolving a lot since it's creation a few months ago and may eventually be implemented.

Your suggestion here will be seen by the "Trading Simulator".

Just ask the da reap, if not for short selling he'd have no selling at all.

SP. Let's use AAPL as an example since everyone still believes it has a shot and I think the next move down takes it to 25.00, AAPL now at 52.80ish and putting in a trend high with resistance above, not sure if it is going to retest the 52 week high but I bet it will, simply open a limit to short AAPL at 55.35 with your broker, how ever many shares you want to short, it may take a few days to get there, or it may get there tomorrow, but if it gets there just set it and forget it, and doan forget my 10% of da profits, an I ainna tawkin play muny either Wink if you want something a tad more volatile you can play Cramer's other play which is what? thaaas right PLAY! when AAPL tops, so will PLAY, but for tonight we may just let him say "i told you so" as he further scolds those who challenged his call like he did on last night's show, should Cramer be wearin a sticky because he got fokes into GOOG at 312 most recently? or for his call on the energies cause his flip flop call from more "pain" on Tue to to "buy the rally before the pain is over" just yesterday looks crappy? or should Cramer just wear a clown's nose and tossle his hair on every Mad Money show from here until Halloween? whataya think? i thought short selling was a predikshun that the stock would decline. Thus, say xyz stock is at 55 and I think it's going to 49.

Seems what you are saying and I know I probably sound stupid, Laughing

I buy xyz at a higher price to later sell it once the price reaches the purchase price.

This is not clear and I once knew what it was...... Laughing

ok the 1 ? I need answered is this........... When doing short selling, do you agree to buy at a price higher then or lower then the current price?

While selling short can be interesting, and even profitable, the real gut grabber (for me at least) is options. Guts or glory, if not used properly. Lots of speculation potential, but for speculating, SIM's are best. I tried real world, and didn't fare real well. Would have been better off lighting campfires of dollar bills. Sad

Hopefully grim will correct me if I'm mistaken, but you're essentially correct an8skate.

Short selling is taking shares (borrowing shares) from someone and selling them at market price. Since you sold shares that you never really owned, you will have to purchase the shares you sold at some point. Your hope is that you will be able to purchase them at a LOWER price than the market price you purchased them at. The difference allows for you to make profit on the short.

For example, you sell 100 stock of AAPL @ 61.25 (it's current price). This would have a value of about $6125.
Your hope is that it will drop from 61.25 .
Let's say the stock dropped to 50, and you decide to purchase the stocks then. You purchase those 100 stocks of AAPL @ 50 for a value of about $5000. You will notice that you sold them for $1125 more than you bought them for, which is your profit.

Interestingly I was going to use GOOG as my example.
I think it's pretty fat at the moment, and would expect it to start sliding down with some strong news from competition (YHOO, MSFT)... but so far it's kept an upward trend.
