Hello online investing community!

I have about $10,000 I will not need to use for about 6-9 months and would like your opinion on how to invest it to maximize yield.

Details: I can afford to loose only 10% ($1,000). I have other investment portfolios and strategies; I would just like your opinion on this one move. I have the money sitting, waiting in a Scottrade online account.

The original plan was to place this money into a conservative mutual fund, however I have been tracking a few low risk funds with 5 star Morningstar ratings and they have been doing very, very poor since I’ve been watching. (TAREX, AIGYX, HWMIX).

So I’m not sure what to do. What would be the best investment? CD, Bond, Bond Fund, Mutual fund, Conservative stock pick?

The more specific the better!

With that timeframe, I would recommend a HY money market or saving accounts. Check Bankrate.com or http://ibankdesign.com/board/index.php?showtopic=540
for a list of available banks.
I've had positive experiences with Western Financial Bank at 3.30%.

I agree that for anything shorter than a year, one of the >3% money market/savings accounts on the market is the way to go. Be sure to read the terms of service. Many require you do something to get the highest rates & most require you keep the account for at least a year. Look at the minimum that you'll have to keep in there for the minimum amount of time to get the high rate on the rest of your funds. Most of the good deals would allow you to collect more than 3% on the 10,000 over the time you leave it in there & only make you keep in 1,000 or less for the rest of that minimum period of time.
