However you trade stock (unless you have a seat on the exchange), if you buy/sell stock when you want to or at a specific price, it is going to be through a broker, whether by phone or online. Full service brokers can give recommendations at a higher cost. Discount brokers are lower cost, but you need to determine yourself what you want to buy or sell. Some discount brokers overlap somewhat, offering free mutual fund suggestions, or advisory services for larger customers or for a fee.
If you phone an order into a discount broker, there may be a higher trade fee. So most of us place orders online, which is quickest and least expensive. It is also easier to double check your entries, assuming you know what you are doing. If not, you could probably get phone assistance entering your first online orders.
In many cases you can buy directly from the stock agent of the company whose stock you are interested in. That can be online after sending initial paperwork. However, you have no choice what price (or even which day) they buy/sell your stock. So that would only make sense for a long term hold you might be adding to regularly and/or dividend reinvestment (DRiP). |

| Online but stay away from "individual" stocks until you really understand how the markets work. Start out with a few quality ETFs until you have a grasp for what you are doing. Picking individual stocks can consume a lot of time especially for a beginner. |

Talking about buying online stocks, i'm looking for someone who has experience in it, but someone outside from the USA.
Let me explain, i'm live in Peru, and i'm curious about how to buy online stocks in stocks exchanges outside mi country. If anyone have a good page (Scottrrade, E-trade, etc) which accepts transactions with people outside USA, i'll be thankful  |
