I had a friend in my dorm hall who would spend the better part of the day reviewing penny stocks from the second the market opened until the moment it closed. He would sell at just the right moment and tell me i just made $30 on the one stock. Of course he had like 100 shares of it but he knew how to profit from it. My question is how difficult is keeping track of penny stocks i.e. not loosing everything or not breaking even all the time. Also, if I were to try it, what are some good penny stocks I could invest in so that I could try my luck at juggling some.

Thanks for any help

penny stocks are not exclusive to experts, they are just have a high risk and fraud potential. You can make good money in penny stocks because you can buy in volume, just remember that they usually don't have a high tade volume either.

It really depends on what you mean by penny stocks. I bought GTW when it was at 1.34 and then rode it up to the 1.75 area within a week to make a pretty nice profit. GTW is Gateway Computer which is a very well know company so it really depends.

I also have to wonder how much money was this person in your dorm investing to be really excited about a $30 gain?

What is your time period for a short term investment? Also, why does the investment need to be short term? If you need the money in a few months then a T-Bill is probably your best bet.

Even expert penny stock investors will tell you a vast majority are garbage. There is a reason most penny stocks are penny stocks. One reason your friend had to sit there all day is because many penny stocks do not move very often and when they do it will more than likely be down a few pennies.

It simply is the lure of that potential one big score a lucky penny stock may bring because you can buy a ton a shares for a small amount of money. However, people forget that when you guess wrong and that penny stock goes down even by a couple pennies and you purchased thousands of shares you lose your shirt very quickly.

So for a beginner that has limited resources you will probably get burned by penny stocks.
