Hi I just bought house and have a simple question. We have the option of either 9ft ceilings or upgrading for 12k to 10ft ceilings. My question is, is there a benefit to upgrade in the value of the house or in the resale value of the house???
Thanks, Sims |

IMHO, Not really. Your better off spending the money in upgrading the Kitchen and Bathrooms or flooring. Though higher ceilings are a selling point, square footage is more important.
That's just my two cents. |

| I once looked at a house that just about filled up its lot. Not much back yard, but it had a tall enough basement that it contained a half basketball court. Just the property taxes on that place are probably now more than my house payments. |

I assume you just bought a house under construction or a spec house? If it's an existing house I can't imagine a reason to add only one foot to the ceiling height.
I agree with Balljacker. If your looking for value/resale your best option is to upgrade the kitchen/ baths.
An extra 1' of ceiling height is almost useless, except to up your power bill for that extra volume to heat and/or cool. |

| Well in some cases extra celing height could potentially save money. I'm thinking of where the heating and cooling costs are not high but the taxes are based on square feet and don't take ceiling height into consideration. If my living room were higher I could get higher shelves for my dvd's, CD's, Books and knick knacks and potentially not have to add on a den or something like that. |
