As some of you know, I am in the process of starting my own website. The two main features I have right now and will be adding to are stock research (similar to what I do here, except they will be more detailed) and a daily (or so, I might get lazy on occasion) piece on something of interest in the world of finance, economics, or business.

If I get really good with the whole programming thing, I hope to be able to offer some portfolio/stock analysis tools that users can have access to that will allow them to find things like volatility and correlation for investments, a program to model random stock moves, and anything else I can dream up. For a bit I was considering a paid research site, but for now all content will be ad supported, and I hope to be able to keep the site like that.

The main page is:
http://www.valuestockreports.com/
The direct link to research is:
http://www.valuestockreports.com/stockreports.htm
And the commentary page (changes daily, more or less) is:
http://www.valuestockreports.com/commentary.htm

I hope you check it out from time to time and find it useful. Smile

Naturally, my host decides right now is a convenient time to switch servers. The site will probably be down for 24-48 hours. I'll post when its back up.

I spent alot of time over the weekend editing my site, and I added a short summary and valuation of Apple (AAPL) to the "Stock Briefs" section. I am aiming to put a new report up on Tuesday night, and I added a couple articles, including one on Google's (GOOG) free cash flow growth compared to its earnings growth.

http://www.valuestockreports.com

Although I thought about offering reports for a price of around $10 originally, I think that would really deter readership and I basically do this stuff anyways, so why not just write a little more formally and put it on the web? Also, I've been impressed with the ad revenues, and they should be able to pay for upkeep and Coke, which are my two primary expenses. Laughing

Also, if you want me to feature a stock of interest on the site, I welcome ideas! The email I check for the site is research@valuestockreports.com
Thanks for visiting!

Although anyone who might have thoughts of buying is probably heavy into the tequila tonight, by sheer coincidence I finished a new report.
You can find it at www.valuestockreports.com/stockreports.htm, and yes, its all free.
For those of you who might have missed my earlier post, my commentary today couldn't be about anything other than you know what...

Embarassed

Today, e_pang pointed out that Firefox users basically can't see my site. I had no idea about this, as I use IE and everything looks fine (for a first time job) that way. I'm working to fix it, and I think everything should be viewable by the weekend.

Sorry if it was abrasive to the eyes...

I originally made all the pages in MSFT Publisher, which I believe is the problem - it uses a format that Firefox can't read. I know I had a disk lying around with copies of all the MSFT programs on them, and I was going to get Frontpage from that, but I can't find it. Mad

Further, I thought I had the site "fixed" so at least it was functional/formatted correctly for Firefox users, but the current computer I am using to check shows I didn't solve anything. Confused

Freaking Firefox users, why must you be so fickle? Evil or Very Mad

Dave, any help on this matter would be hugely appreciated - if there is some way to make some magic happen so everyone can see it, that would be great - otherwise, I guess I need to redo the site in a new format with a new program.

I wish I could help. Smile I don't use firefox, and I don't use any sort of tool to generate my HTML. This is why I suggested some blogging software, so you don't have to worry about presentation, just your content. Smile

I took a look at the source for your page, and it's typical MS garbage... there's so much markup and styling going on it's a wonder it works in anything. Are you hosted on a linux or windows server, do you know? Most linux hosts offer mysql and php out of the box. Wordpress is a cinch to install, and there are thousands of themes out there that work beautifully in all browsers. You can tweak them some without breaking stuff, but you have to get your hands a bit dirty.

If you want a database-driven dynamic mysql/php web site, I can help. If you want it to look great, I'm afraid I'm not that person. I just don't like having to deal with all of the different browsers and their quirks, so I let someone else do the work.

You've just reminded me why. Smile

Dave,
Honestly, I have no idea what I'm doing or what mysql and linux servers are, etc. I just know that Publisher is really easy to use, to the point where I can make a new page in only a few minutes. But its not compatible with Firefox... however, Firefox doesn't have nearly the penetration I thought it did. Having spent about 6 hours today trying to get Firefox to read something from Frontpage too, I'm basically going to throw in the towel and people can either use IE, or deal.

At least this exercise gave you a chuckle. Laughing

Alright... so now its viewable in Firefox. Not all the links on the navigation thing work in Firefox (why can't you people just be simple and use IE Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Mad ), but if I can resolve the first problem I should be able to get this figured out too.
Ben or Dave, last request for help Laughing - if you can look at the difference between pages where the side bar does and does not work, and possibly give me some lead as to what is wrong, I would be most grateful.

Example of a "working" sidebar
http://www.valuestockreports.com/companybriefs.htm

Non-working sidebar
http://www.valuestockreports.com/stockreports.htm

For anyone who is interested, I just put out a short piece on Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) which has been down quite a bit the last few weeks - I think it is getting into good "value" territory, especially considering what a great company it is. http://www.valuestockreports.com/jnjbrief.htm

Looking good though!
