Ok so Im starting the thread early for this competition because of a rule change. You may short your pick now.
Here are the rules.
You pick a stock and start with the closing price on the last day of the previous month. You have the choice of shorting your pick and your percentage in the red counts for the month end standings
If you wish to change your stock pick, do not edit your reply. Please make a new reply (and send me a PM with your new pick) or your pick will be disqualified.
Stock must be over 5.00 and there is not a maximum price limit.
You MAY choose a stock that is under 5.00 but you will automatically be in the red until it reaches the 5.00 minimum starting price.
Stock symbols must be valid and not have "." symbols in them, just like when using the simulator.
There is no volume restriction.
The winners are announced at the end of the month.
Oh yeah the winner's prize!!
***NEW CHANGE****
1st: 30,000
2nd: 20,000
3rd: 15,000
4th: 10,000
5th: 5,000
Bonus 2,500 for ending in the black, or red if you shorted your pick!
This contest will begin on November 1st which is the first trading day for the month of November. You will have until midnight the day before trading starts to enter your pick.
Good Luck!!! |

Maybe you should pick yours first, and then Grim will short yours. Let the battle begin and the others will follow. j/k. |

I think what Vetelmo is saying is that you are allowed to short a stock, and however well that works out for you will be your return for the month. |

Is this just shorting only? Or we can do either/or!?!?
If it's both, then do we have to be specific in saying I am shorting this stock or what?
I am confused!?!?
Thanks a lot! |

I'll choose to SHORT a stock, Sony (SNE). I don't think I'll win, but I will feel good knowing their stock is going south. |

You pick one stock and decide if you think it's going to be down for the month (short the stock) or it will do well for the month (long).
You do not have to specify that you think the stock will do well, only if you want to short it. |

Why not just have people specify long or short to avoid any confusion - adding the extra word doesn't seem like too much of an imposition. |

Sure, specify the direction you think your pick will go. |

I may have to change my pick if it gits away from me too much....but I doubt there will be any SIRIous selling until afta da election so there should be plenty o'juice left in er fer Nov. I'll run wit da volatility index, VIX long....da trade SIM recognizes it as ^VIX. |
