Ok- EZA was nice, but today, EFA is looking tempting. If you run the chart in local dollars (instead of the inflated American Dollars) the growth looks sustainable, and there's a narrow window now to pick up some beer money. Don't settle in at the bar though, it won't last long. Wink

And here we are 7 days later...and it's time to step away from the bar. Or is that bear? Looks like a little dip in our ice cream cone for a bit.

Haven't been posting much lately. Was busy in real dollars. Picked up a quick 3% working the heck out of EFA, but retreated today to bonds while the dust settles. Looking at the opening numbers for Australia and Japan for 17 January, this could be an expensive day for anyone who lingered on that "last call" cocktail.

S&P looks tired, EFA is settling, so... boring bonds it is for awhile Wink Hey, he who fights and runs away...lives to fight another day.

That's how it is, January 16th, 2007. Hope you and yours are enjoying a New Year full of Health, Wealth, and Happiness.

As I anticipated, many more companies are missing earnings targets and guiding cautiously-to-lower for future quarters. Be careful going to play stocks before earnings, and foreign markets are still your best bet for long-term growth and appreciation. If you have the time to dig through listings of ADRs and the ability to analyze companies a world away, you should find the best stocks of the future there. Some of those stocks are dirt cheap and have phenomenal growth prospects. Right now I am looking at Korean companies - SKM (Telecom) and PKX (Steel). I just wish they would put the numbers in US dollars... Laughing

Yes Sir, I too would like to see dollar quotes. All the conversions on my computer's calculator are wearing out my mouse Wink

Any opinions on China? Too early for the average investor...or is this a dive in and hold your breath? The consumer population is there, but is the infrastructure? I wonder. One thing about it...they're sure having a field day Wink

I've recently been saying that South Korea and Taiwan are my favorite foreign markets, considering how cheap many excellent businesses are trading for there. Today Buffett and Berkshire announced that they have a significant stake in Posco (PKX), the South Korean steel maker.

Also, Buffett is looking for a successor to manage Berkshire's investments in the future... can you say destiny?

I saw part of Liz Clayburn's report on WB taday during Maria Barf-aroma's show. I told ya he was losin it! Shocked Did you hear him "pre-blaming" the weather cause he doesn't think da Wall St logic in the insurance sector has such a good chance going forward. At least he's coverin his bases though Arrow "Hey, I told you guys not to drive up the insurance stocks so high just cause there were no him or herricanes. I even warned ya things might not be so good ifn say Florida gets whacked hard next year. God forbid New Orleans gets hit agin." Very Happy Liz said he wassa lookin fer sumbody to take over and be his stock-pickin protege. I'm hoping he still comes by to read my posts. I did warn him about USG, CVX...now a steel stock! YIKERS! Yo WB....you really are losin it....but da Reaper will keep them GREAT plays a comin so keep stoppin by. Did ya sell CVX when I told ya? Confused Embarassed Laughing

I brought this old thread back up as it still applies today.

Hi! Back again, leaving again, but thought I'd jot a couple of lines in the interim. Real Money....100% laddered 4 week T-Bills. Play money...100% SDS, as I believe we have not hit bottom yet. I'm looking for a 1360 S&P, and then will start getting "interested" again. Until that point, or until we have the definite "lazy w" of a correction bottom....I'm on the sidelines Wink As for the international market....well, we all got a bit carried away there. My last time in I made $40 on a $16,000 shot, and was lucky to get out with that! I know there are those that say these times are the buying opportunity....but I guess I'm just not in a buying mood. Someone called it a "Buyer's Strike"....and I'm on the picket line LOL Very Happy

I see new names and faces in the forum, and that's good. However, how come there's not more in the standings? All ya' gotta' do is post a few lines and you're up there! Don't worry about what your return is...this is a learning environment....and you're amongst friends. By putting yourself on the standings board...you commit to improvement. I can honestly say that this forum, and it's inhabitants, are why I'm ahead of the S&P by 7%. So go ahead, make the commitment, and MAKE MONEY! It can be done with the market going up...the market going down...and the market going sideways. This is the place to read, learn, and experiment. And hey....they side benefits (real world profits) ain't all bad Wink

That's all from the hills of Montana where the economy is slowing, but the seasons aren't. Keep your powder dry, and your finger on the trigger. Good times will come again. Will write again on my next time home.

Best to all!

Naw Reaper, just came back from New Mexico in April. Nice folks, but a whole different way of looking at life. I'll stick to my hills and boulders, those flat lands are just too "blah" for me Wink

As for the t-bills, no...I didn't lock in on the good stuff. Since when have I EVER followed good advice? Laughing

O.K.- Disclaimer first....my real dollars are sitting in T-Bills waiting for the dust to settle a bit. I was starting to manage my portfolio like a yo-yo trying to outguess the market's latest whim. NOT GOOD! Crying or Very sad

But for the purposes of the game.... Laughing Laughing

I've watched for days now as the world sat back (ho-hum) while we rode the elevator. I'm taking the view that, frankly, they think the Americans have lost their minds (again!).

So, to try to bring this month back up in the black, I'm trying EWZ. That's the index for Brazil. A nice quiet South American country that doesn't go to war with people, don't make grand stand plays in the headlines, etc....but instead quietly take care of their own business. At a profit Laughing

Let's see if the theory is correct....that the world is laughing at us again, and that there's money to be made WITHOUT Ben and his boys. Stay tuned Laughing

Mad I'll tell ya what....if George W Bush abuses alcohol one mo time...I'm writing my Congrussmun! ....ifn my Congressmun isn't off playin footsies wit sum cop in a rest area along I-75 dat is. Yes Mr Reaper, I concur. Mr Bush should NOT abuse alchohol. Me and my Coors Light do enough of that FOR him Wink But yeah...I'm not a long term EWZ man...just a little "pop" to get us back in the black for this month. I wouldn't want you and Mr Stats talking about "that ETF loser". Laughing Laughing LMFAO

Will be leaving the group for a month again tomorrow. You guys be good...and make a TON of money. Talk to you on the flip flop.

Coor's light? Rolling Eyes Try Coor's reggy insted. Coor's light was a scam perpetrated by Coor's ta get rid ov the crap that's left on da bottom o'da vat after they's dunn brewin Coor's reggy. They simply wash da vat out wit rocky mtn spring water....put da mix in "frost brewed" containers ta make ya think they shivagits...and then it's mawketed by a bevy o'beauties wit big brezzmusses. Sho...it's a plan dat obviously werks wit da beer guzzlin publick...specially da yung college kids who ainna even old enuff ta drink yet. Rolling Eyes I even tried Coor's light meself but figured I'd be better off forcin a lime into a bottle ov beer from Mexicali ta cover da taste ov Pedro's urine. I mean...why botha? Rolling Eyes

Anyhoo, methinks Al Gore will have da lock on da new line ov vehicles comin out based on eeeh-tha-nawl as a fuel. Look fer da Mootsoobushee Algore ta hit da streets by midway through Hillary's foist term...after she makes Al Gore da "deputy ov global warming"....his first job in office will be to attend da Olympics in China and pass out surgical masks to all the U.S. atletes. My take is dat competition fer da Mottsoobusheee Algore will come from the middle east as Dick Cheney retires to Dubai and convinces da sheiks to begin produckshun ov da Dubai-yotsoo Dick Cheney. That car will run on all 12 cylinders, look like a Mazerati, but be priced like a Huyandai! Shocked This means EVERYBODY will be able to aford one...even though it'll suck down high test like a college coed who swore she'd remain a virgin till she "found the right guy" Shocked Shud be intrusting times ahed. Have fun on yer journey...but stay outta New Mexico unless ya gots yer nuculer disaster kit wit ya! Shocked
