I unfortunatly broke rule #2 (never follow a hot tip blind) of stock trading earlier this week and it tought me exactly why it is rule number two putting me down in the -3% range. Fortunatly I'm holding a couple solid buys, one is up 24% alone. Good thing because I need it to cover all those missteps.

I decided to decipher one of Grim's posts and blindly picked a stock he mentioned, then it sank. Somewhat my fault since it was a valitile small cap, something worthy of day trading but not good for me or anything I have exerience dealing with. So I'll just go back to skipping over Grim's posts from now on.

Oh and just in case anyone wants to know rule #1 is don't get your emotions involved.

Here's a tip... before paying to check someone's holdings, look very carefully at the data underneath their name. If you see this:
Quote:
Portfolio Value: 0.00

... then you need to pay more than e$1000 to get anything of value. Smile

e$1000 gets you a peak at their current holdings. A portfolio of zero means no current holdings. You can still pony up e$2500 to see current holdings (empty) plus all trades made in the prior 30 days. That way you'll see their activity for the month.

SUMX is a classic example of the type of stock that shouldn't even be allowed to be traded at this site. That stock probably sat on 9.00 for 20 minutes...you got in....it ran to 9.75 and sat there for 10 minutes....you got out....all on a total of 11610 shares traded today. Am I right? Very Happy Anybody who trades crap like this to game the trading SIM should not be allowed a top 3 finish if they persist. I hope Dave checks to see if fokes are gaming the delay in the trading sim using crap stocks like this POS SUMX and totally eliminates all trades like this to be fair to the others competing for the top 3 spots on a munthly basis.

I just came on a min ago and I noticed a new name, wwaideli, 1% behind me at +4%. Then I click on a post and it says he is -99% and I am blown away. How did he loose 100% in a matter of seconeds?

Then I go to manage your portfolio and notice that I dropped from +5% down to -17% Shocked Evil or Very Mad Shocked but my stocks are still in the black, +6% and +28% at the time of this post. Question so.... umm..... whats going on?!?

I know the market is down pretty deep at the moment but I'm lost.

And when i click on monthly return calc it says 5.36% gain. Maybe the sim is crashing Shocked Shocked oh no

Well I'm outta the top three for now so if ya pass me I'm not to concerned unless you take my spot in the top three then I'll have to do some of that day trading stuff that hendrick and dknight do to get all their quick gains.

Careful T-Bag, it's a risky game, called "catching the falling knife". It can really hurt! I almost got burned this morning in fact. Had a buy in for market open, but didn't get to check on it until 0930am. Bailed as fast as I could, but still lost a little bit. Ya' gotta be able to stay on top of it, and watch what the overall market is doing at the same time. Otherwise..."oops" becomes "ouch" very quickly Wink

It looks like Hendrick caught the falling knife the wrong way, unless the sim is still messed up. Me on the otherhand, I don't appear to be able to even throw the knives I've been in the same box most of the week Mad oh well

Yeah, it could have gone either way for me too. I put everything on Ford yesterday morning at market open price, and then just let it ride. I figured hey...no guts no glory...and Ford had been beat up for a long time. It was their turn Wink

Thanks for the competition this month! You're GOOD!!! I'll be watching you this next month, as I'm sure you'll be up there at the top now that you got your string good and wet Smile Just kidding Wink

I look forward to future duels Rolling Eyes Wink

I appreciate the compliment Laughing your gonna give me an ego now, but I'll try to stay cool.

All I know is what I've read from a couple of cheap books back in October. They were good books but they are all fundamental long-term investment type books. I guess day trading isn't much harder I just don't have the ability to watch my stocks as you mentioned in a previous post.

Congratulations on the Big Win!!

I unearthed this string (reliving days of glory Smile ) and found that the philosophy used in the "big bet" on Ford is working again with South Africa (EZA). Here is an index for all us ETF/ADR/ETC fans that has been viciously beat up, and now (in this overbought/overspent EFA and SPY world) is finally being recognized. I've had pretty good luck with it... you might want to check it out. Be aware though...volatility seems to be part of the package.
