I thought I'd open this forum just to see if anybody wants to discuss what they think their biggest mistake or victory was that helped improve/worsen their funny money eI portfolio each week. Fo da week of 6/5 I went from down 11.2% to -1.88% by doing 2 things. I realized that GNBT probably wasn't going to run as soon as I had anticipated....so I eliminated a very large position after a nice rally....and I eliminated it at a loss from my buy point. Shocked Sometimes ya gotsta bite da bullet. I'm still holding a rather large position but I may scale back further this week. We shall see. Very Happy I also made a nice trade in HOM off the low....I sold waaaay too early but I made a very nice gain in about 30 minutes, well, more like 40 minutes cause of the SIM delays Rolling Eyes Very Happy

I'll play.

Biggest gain this week was mastercard. I went up 8% then it dropped back a bit but I see this one going up steady for the next while with summer holiday season approaching, we'll see.

Biggest loss over the last while was my very large stake in Exxon. I have shed 10 % over the last month. I have scaled back my position (at a loss) but do feel it will rebound. I am not seeing the price of crude coming down any time soon, nor the price at the pump.

Guess we'll see what happens next week!

@domgen

Interesting that Mastercard gained that much, but of course that's a bit obvious.

It's my first time here on einvesting.com so I'm wondering if you could give me some advice domgen. Do you think that mastercard will go up now that the season has just started, or should I buy something from Visa instead? Razz

Cheers!

My play was more on the basis of consumer spending habits and my belief that a number of people will still make summer vacations that they might not have due to gas prices by using the old plastic. I selected Master card because it was recent IPO and felt there would be some investor interest in the offering. My decision to by master card was not really statistically based as I still do not understand myslef a lot of the charts etc. It's all a learning experiance and so far I've mad a couple good plays and a couple not so good..

Gave back 4% for the week ended 6/16 Crying or Very sad Although I had eliminated most of my huge stake in GNBT last week....my current
"too substantial" stake took me down further. So I guess it could have been worse in that I had the foresight to eliminate a disaster last week. Very Happy GNBT showing some strenght off this week's low....but I doan trust it and know 1.70 will be a test. Looks like it is trading higher in tonight's AH session. My other mistake this week was underestimating the selloff in CTT, I bought some at 15%+ higher levels and held it. I even dubled my position at one point but saw da writin on da wall and eliminated the second buy. It's a small position and I still like the stock. I never followed it personally....I picked it up from a trader at anudder site. The chawt look crappy enough for me to be interested! Laughing

My biggest victory is BULK which is up 11% for me and my second biggest victory was ALXN which made 4,5% Very Happy (but I only bought them for a thrid of my portfolio so the returns were actually smaller)

My biggest mistake so far is ACET. It keeps going down (up today) so I keep averaging down. I have 4 buys already (in 100 lots) but it hasn't reached my cost basis to break even.

BTW, each buy order has its own row. How do I sell all of it to make it just one sell order, thus only being charged once for commission?

That's an excellent question you axed. I wonder if you can take a stock you bought say 5 times in 1000 share increments and sell all 5000 shares with one order. Maybe Dave has the answer.

Combined sales are in the works, meaning it's not yet a current feature. If you PM Benjamin he might take pity on you and restore the "extra" commission dollars. Wink But for now that is the way it works.

10e$ come on!!! 40e$ if you sell off. True it would be nice to pay only 10e$ to sell out, but just posting in the main forums will get you at least 200e$.

I just made 200e$ for this reply. More if I quoted you. Very Happy

True but it doesn't make it realistic. A real broker will let you sell all your buy orders for the same stock at one time, thus only incurring a one-time charge for the sell order. You may be getting e$ by posting but that is the equivalent of putting more money in your brokerage account by transferring cash from your savings or checking account.

As I mentioned, it's coming. Smile No actual release date yet, but it should be included in the next update for the site.

You are exactly correct in that. If you have to pay extra commissions it affects your return... and since the return is what the monthly contest is based on, it could be significant. Maybe not, but in a really close race it could be a difference maker.
